Various implementations include implants and related methods for moving bone. Certain implementations include an implant for moving bone in a patient's body, the implant including: an implantable biocompatible housing; a first adjustment rod at least partially overlapping the implantable biocompatible housing; a driver configured to drive the first adjustment rod to enable movement of the first adjustment rod relative to the housing; and a load sensor positioned within the housing and configured to indicate a load applied by the driver on the first adjustment rod.

The instruments and methods of the present disclosure include an outer shaft, an inner shaft, a roller, and an actuator. In some examples, the outer shaft includes a lumen extending from a proximal end to a distal end. The inner shaft is disposed within the lumen. The roller rotatably is coupled with the distal end at an axis and configured to engage the fixation rod. The actuator operably couples with the inner shaft to translate the inner shaft within the lumen and cause rotation of the roller to impart linear movement on the fixation rod.

Instrument and method for in situ rod adjustment

An osteotomy instrument includes a handle, a first arm assembly, a second arm assembly, a displacement mechanism, and a tuning mechanism. The first arm assembly is pivotably mounted to the handle. The first arm assembly includes a first fastener support configured to hold a fastener. The second arm assembly is pivotably mounted to the handle. The second arm assembly includes a second fastener support configured to hold a fastener. The displacing mechanism includes a dial disposed on the handle. The displacing mechanism is configured to laterally displace a distal end of the first arm assembly and second arm assembly away and towards each other. The dial actuates the displacing mechanism. The tuning mechanism is configured to change an angular position of the first fastener support with respect to the second fastener support.

A transverse link with a pair of opposing engagement members having a spherical ball bearing configured to fix a respective screw extender with respect to each other is provided. The spherical bearing is configured to allow the engagement member to rotate in three dimension so as to accommodate the position of a pair of respective screw extenders. The transverse link includes an automatic latching mechanism configured to fixed the spatial distance between the ends of the rod fixation instruments with respect to each other.

An instrument for breaking off and retaining the tab of a reduction screw is provided. The instrument includes a breaking arm and a retaining mechanism. The breaking arm is configured to break off an excess portion of the tab of the reduction screw about a weakened section. The retaining mechanism is configured to retain the broken off tab and preventing the tab from falling into a surgical site. The retaining mechanism is further configured to allow the instrument to engage another tab while simultaneously holding a predetermined number of previously broken off tabs. Accordingly, the instrument reduces surgical time as the surgeon may simply move from one reduction screw to another while breaking off the tabs until the instrument can no longer retain additional broken off tabs.

A method for reducing a fixation rod is provided. The method minimizes the surgical corridor by performing fixation within the surgical corridor defined by the screw extender. The screw extender is attached to the spinal implant. The method includes the steps of coupling the proximal end of a first cannulated body with the screw extender and rotating a second cannulated body within the first cannulated body. The method proceeds to the step of actuating a rod pusher with a first driving feature so as to engage the rod pusher with the fixation rod. The rod pusher includes a bore. The method proceeds to the step of rotating an inserter shaft within first cannulated body, second cannulated body and bore of the rod pusher, the inserter shaft including a proximal end with a second driving feature and a distal end with a setscrew attachment feature.

Instrument and method for reducing and securing spinal rods

An instrument for reducing a fixation rod within a screw extender that attaches to a spinal implant includes first, second, and third cannulated bodies and an inserter shaft. The first cannulated body includes a proximal end that couples with the screw extender. The second cannulated body rotates within the first cannulated body and includes a proximal end with a first driving feature and a distal end with an internal threaded portion. The third cannulated body includes a proximal end that engages the internal threaded portion and a distal end with a rod pusher for engaging the fixation rod. The inserter shaft rotates within the third cannulated body and includes a proximal end with a second driving feature and a distal end with a setscrew attachment feature.

An orthopedic instrument for compression and distraction of bone segments includes a first receiver, a second receiver, a positioner member, and a guide member. The first receiver includes a first receiver aperture that receives a first screw extender. The second receiver includes a second extender aperture that receives a second screw extender. The positioner member translates the second receiver relative to the first receiver to apply one of a compression and a distraction force on the screw extenders. The guide member parallel to the positioner member guides the second receiver relative to the first receiver.

Instrument and method for spinal compression and distraction

An instrument for multilevel compression and distraction of vertebrae in a spinal column includes a first arm, a second arm, a third arm, a linking member, and a coupler. The first arm includes a distal end with a first aperture for receiving a first screw extender that attaches to a first vertebra. The second arm includes a distal end with a second aperture for receiving a second screw extender that attaches to a second vertebra. The third arm includes a distal end with a third aperture for receiving a third screw extender that attaches to a third vertebra. The linking member pivotally links proximal ends of the first, second, and third arms. The coupler positions the distal ends of the first arm and the second arm relative to the third arm to compress and distract the first vertebra and the second vertebra relative to the third vertebra.

A dental implant package for holding a dental implant has a container having a first contact surface, and a cap having a second contact surface. The cap and the container define a cavity configured for holding the dental implant. The first and second contact surfaces are configured for holding the dental implant therebetween. The cap comprises a plug defining the second contact surface.

A medical implant package including a vial and a cap connected by a hinge. The vial includes a cavity for housing at least a portion of a dental implant. To access the implant, the cap is rotated about the hinge from a closed position to an open position. The cap defines a second cavity, separate from the vial cavity, sized to contain a healing screw. In one embodiment, the cap includes two portions connected by a living hinge which define the second cavity. The two cap portions, when moved relative to each other via the living hinge, permit access to the healing screw. In an alternative embodiment, the cap includes two retention members sized and configured to grip the healing screw. To remove the healing screw from the cap, the two retention members are displaced apart from each other by engaging them with a wedge extending from the vial.
