An integrated seal backup system includes a guiding mandrel; opposing taper elements; a deformable element positioned around the mandrel and between the taper elements; opposing sets of rings adjacent the deformable element, each set having an inner solid ring having an outer diameter smaller than an inside diameter of the tubular to be sealed and at least one backup ring having an inner taper matching the taper element and adapted to fracture in a pre-determined location in response to a diameter expanding force.

Integrated seal backup system

A downhole packer includes a first locking member positioned at least partially around an outer surface of an oilfield tubular. The first locking member includes an inner surface that engages the outer surface of the oilfield tubular, and a tapered outer surface. A drive ring is positioned at least partially around the first locking member. The drive ring includes a reverse-tapered inner surface that engages the tapered outer surface of the first locking member. A first cap is movably coupled with the drive ring, disposed at least partially around the first locking member, and axially engaging the first locking member. Moving at least one of the first cap and the drive ring toward the other causes the drive ring to apply a radially-inward force on the first locking member, causing the first locking member to be secured to the tubular.

Downhole packer

A coiled tubing assembly includes coiled tubing having a side wall that defines an opening and an insert covering the opening and affixed to the coiled tubing. The coiled tubing has a longitudinal axis. The insert defines a capillary window therethrough. The opening and the insert include ends that are non-perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. A method of making a coiled tubing assembly includes providing coiled tubing defining a side wall opening and pulling a capillary tube into the interior of the coiled tubing through the side wall opening. The method further includes attaching the capillary tube to a capillary window of an insert for covering the side wall opening and affixing the insert to the coiled tubing.

Method for making a coiled tubing assembly

A mechanical sliding sleeve () includes a sleeve housing () defining a fluid communication port, a first sub () affixed to the sleeve housing, and a second sub () affixed to the sleeve housing. An isolation sleeve () is disposed in an internal bore defined by the sleeve housing, the first sub, and the second sub, and defines a fluid communication port (). The isolation sleeve is slidable along interfaces between the first sub, the second sub, and the sleeve housing between an open position, wherein fluid is allowed through the ports, and a closed position, wherein fluid passage through the ports is inhibited. A sealing element is operably associated with the sleeve housing, the first sub, the second sub, and the isolation sleeve to inhibit fluid flow through the ports unless the isolation sleeve is in the open position, and to seal at least a portion of the interfaces from contact with downhole fluids.

Mechanical sliding sleeve

A barrier seal includes a bulkhead having a first end, a second end and a surface extending between the first end and the second end. The barrier seal further includes a rib extending radially outwardly from the surface of the bulkhead. The rib defines a first sealing profile extending from a first side of the rib and a second sealing profile extending from a second side of the rib.

A seal assembly that is usable with a well includes a metal body that is adapted to expand radially inwardly and radially outwardly in response to the body being longitudinally compressed between compressing surfaces. The metal body includes first and second surfaces that do not conform to the compressing surfaces before longitudinal compression of the body and are adapted to contact the compressing surfaces.

Forming a metal-to-metal seal in a well

A downhole service tool is provided that may include a body having an interior passageway, at least one exit port through which fluid may flow from the interior passageway to an exterior of the tool, and at least one diverting channel adapted to cause fluid exiting the exit port to flow in a predetermined pattern, such as a helical or rotational flow path. The diverting channel may be in the form of a trough, and may also have a tapering width from its upper end to its lower end, where it meets the exterior of the tool. The diverting channel may also have a helical or other predetermined shape so as to facilitate the inducement of the desired flow pattern. By designing the tool so as to create a desired flow pattern, erosion of the tool by the exiting fluid flow is lessened. Related methods are also provided.
