A wellbore isolation tool, e.g., a bridge plug, provides the ability to seal portions of a well from production or to temporarily seal zones of a well from treatment. A bridge plug may include a sealing element supported by one or more segmented barrier devices that operate to prohibit extrusion of the sealing element as the sealing element is subjected to an axial force. The segmented barrier device may operate passively as segments are driven radially outward by the radial expansion of the sealing element when subject to the axial force and driven radially inward by leaf springs when the axial force is removed. Segments of the segmented barrier device may circumferentially overlap and form a generally flat shoulder supporting the sealing element. The segmented barrier device may include a jacket covering the segments, and a sealing element may be supported by a segmented barrier device on each axial end.

An anchor for a linear actuator includes a body, a mandrel with at least two slip-receiving portions, and one or more slips. The body can be coupled to the linear actuator and the mandrel can be coupled to the power rod of the linear actuator. The linear actuator can power on and cause the power rod to move in an uphole direction toward the linear actuator. Moving the power rod can cause the mandrel to move in an uphole direction. The slip can respond to the mandrel moving in an uphole direction by expanding outward. The mandrel can continue to move in the uphole direction until the slip is received at a second slip-receiving portion.

A wellbore isolation device includes a tubular body having an inner bore formed longitudinally therethrough. A plurality of centralizing arms is radially extendible from the tubular body. At least one slip is radially extendible from the tubular body. A sealing assembly that is radially extendible from the tubular body is also included and disposed between the centralizing arms and the slip. The sealing assembly includes a radially extendible elastomeric sealing surface and an anti-extrusion device having at least two support members coupled to opposite longitudinal ends of the elastomeric sealing surface. An equalizing port is also included which is disposed in the tubular body and permits, when opened, fluidic communication between external the tubular body and the inner bore thereby equalizing the pressure between external the tubular body and the inner bore.

Conventional optical analysis tools containing an integrated computational element may have an operational profile that is too large for convenient use within confined locales. Optical analysis tools having a miniaturized operational profile can comprise: an electromagnetic radiation source that provides electromagnetic radiation to an optical train; and an optical computing device positioned within the optical train. The optical computing device comprises a planar array detector having at least two optical detection regions. At least one of the at least two optical detection regions has an integrated computational element disposed thereon. The planar array detector and the integrated computational element are in a fixed configuration with respect to one another.

Incorporation of integrated computational elements within optical analysis tools having a miniaturized operational profile and tiered sampling windows

A wellbore sealing device having an elastomeric element with complex features and associated additive manufacturing method is disclosed. The complex features can include voids such as isolated voids and undercut-like voids that cannot be reasonably produced using existing molding techniques (e.g., due physically impossible mold shapes or cost-prohibitive mold requirements). These complex features can alleviate stress and increase radial expansion of the elastomeric element in response to axial compression of the elastomeric element. Such elastomeric elements with complex features can be additively manufactured (e.g., through three dimensional printing). In some cases, the elastomeric elements can be additively manufactured directly on a tool, such as on an end plate or mandrel of a wellbore sealing device.

A latching assembly for wellbore logging tools includes a bottom hole assembly to be disposed on a distal end of a drill string. The bottom hole assembly includes a landing sub having a bore with a latching mechanism that includes latch jaws and bias springs. The latch jaws can receive a landing shoulder. The biasing spring has a closing arm and an opening arm to respectively close and open the latch jaws. The bottom hole assembly includes a tool string that includes the landing shoulder for engaging with the latch jaw of the landing sub, the biasing spring, and a logging assembly that includes at least one logging tool for obtaining and storing data about at least one geologic formation penetrated by the wellbore.

Incorporation of integrated computational elements within optical analysis tools having a miniaturized operational profile

A downhole piston accumulator system is disclosed, such as for a formation tester. The soft piston of the system is designed to withstand high pressure downhole fluids in small volume cylinders, the fluid being collected for optical fluid identification or other analyses. The temperature range of the fluid may vary widely, which can be accommodated by the soft piston. Sealing components on the soft piston include additional materials for sealing the soft piston and otherwise helping to accommodate the wide ranging pressures and temperatures. The piston container or cylinder is designed to properly capture the piston and accommodate piston movement. The piston accumulator system allows an outer or exterior position sensor to detect piston movement, such as by a magnetic sensor.

Downhole piston accumulator system

A method for conveying logging tools (LT) and obtaining well log data from a wellbore is disclosed. The method includes running a drill string (DS) including a landing sub (LS) disposed near the lower end into a wellbore. A logging tool string (LTS) is inserted into the upper end of the DS bore. A fluid is pumped into the upper end of the DS bore to assist movement of the LTS. As the fluid is pumped behind the LTS, the cable at the surface is spooled out and the fluid pressure is monitored. The landing assembly of the LTS is landed in the LS. A diagnostic test is activated and run to determine proper functioning of the LT. A release mechanism releases the running tool portion of the LTS. The cable is spooled in. The drill pipe string is pulled upward in the wellbore as the LT are recording data.

Method and assembly for conveying well logging tools

A method of communication from the surface with to the downhole logging tool string is disclosed. The method includes movement of the drill pipe string up or down at the surface to create coded signature signals by the downhole logging tool string and send those signature signals to a processor in the downhole logging tool string that has been preprogramed to recognize the signature signals.

Method for communicating with logging tools

Optical measurement devices including one or more sealing assemblies are described. The sealing assemblies are configured for use at relatively high temperatures and pressures, such as temperatures over 200 degrees F. and pressures over 10,000 psi. The sealing assemblies can include a deformable seal element surrounded on each side by a backup seal element. In some examples, the deformable seal element is formed of a material selected from a group consisting of a fluoroelastomer or polytetrafluoroethylene, and the backup seal elements are formed of a material selected from a group consisting of flexible graphite or metal foil. Optionally, at least one additional seal element functioning as an extrusion barrier can be placed on the opposite side of one or both backup seal elements from the deformable seal element. The additional seal element can be formed of polyether ether ketone or flexible graphite, for example. Additional devices and assemblies are described.
