An aircraft exterior lighting multi-LED array for variable beam profile enables illumination of landing and taxi lights from a common fixture. An optic enables direction of luminance emitted from at least one central emitter (or cluster of emitters) along steradians illuminated when landing while directing luminance emitted from at least one peripheral emitter (or cluster of emitters) along steradians illuminated when taxiing.

An aircraft light collimation and redirection apparatus and method devised to reflect, refract, focus, and collimate light from a light source along particular steradians relative to an aircraft to maximize the perceived luminous intensity at all statutorily required angles of observation while minimizing the required luminous efficacy of the light source.

Aircraft light unit

An aircraft light device has a base, a printed circuit board, a reflector and a cover-lens. The reflector is comprised of a number of reflective surfaces connected together to form a spline. Light transducers on the printed circuit board are of two main types, light emitters and light receivers. Light emitters provide light for illumination, while light receivers enable detection of received light. The two transducer types can be used alone or in combination.

Aircraft light device

A configurable lamp assembly has a set of lamp-lens modules and a set of power modules. Each of the various lamp-lens modules can connect to one of the various power modules to provide a variety of lamp assemblies providing various illumination patterns operable from a number of supply voltages.

An aircraft external lighting system and method is applicable to aircraft position, navigation and strobe lights. The lighting system includes a light source, a cylindrical lens adjacent the light source, and a lenticular lens between the light source and the cylindrical lens.

Light sources in a luminaire attach to the luminaire by one or more tabs. Up to three axis of rotation are possible. Bendable tabs enable a first axis of rotation of the light source. Light sources are rotatable about a mounting point to the tab providing a second axis of rotation. Some tabs are twistable about a third axis of rotation. Some tabs also conduct heat away from the light source. Tabs can also be formed in a baffle plate for new luminaires or for the retrofit of existing luminaires. Multiple types of light sources can be combined to provide luminaires with custom light patterns and intensities.

An aircraft navigation light comprises a base and circuit board in thermal contact with the base. White and colored LEDs mount on the circuit board. A reflector-shade placed adjacent the LEDs reflects light from the LEDs in desired directions and shades other directions from view of selected LEDs. A light transmissive cover sealed to the base, encloses the circuit board, LEDs and reflector-shade. Temperature responsive circuitry on the circuit board regulates the current through the LEDs and reduces the LED current under high temperature conditions.
