A surgical robotic system includes a control tower having a first connector coupled to a first controller; and a movable robotic arm cart having a robotic arm and a second connector coupled to a second controller, the second connector being configured to couple to the first connector through a cable. The second controller being configured to transmit an identification signal having identification information of the movable robotic arm cart to the first controller to initialize the movable robotic arm cart for operation with the control tower.

A device for dividing a fibrous structure comprising an expandable member positioned near the distal end of a catheter and in fluid communication with the lumen of the catheter so that the expandable member can be biased between an inflated state and a deflated state to tension the fibrous structure, and electrosurgical elements situated on or proximate to an outer surface of the expandable member and configured to deliver electrical and thermal energy to the tensioned fibrous structure in a manner that results in division of the tensioned fibrous structure. The invention is a system and a device for use in open or minimally invasive surgical procedures, such as a bone implant fixation procedure. The device is configured to perform various functions during a bone implant fixation procedure, including performing at least one of: penetration of a bone to form a hole or opening for receipt of a screw; neuromonitoring, in cooperation with a neuromonitoring device, of the hole during, or post-, formation of the hole so as to sense any nearby nerves adjacent to the hole that may be in the path of a screw, or otherwise affected, when a screw is placed within the hole; neurostimulation, in cooperation with a neuromonitoring device, of nerves adjacent to the hole during, or post-, formation of the hole; and measuring of a depth of the hole and providing a digital measurement of the depth to assist the surgeon in selecting the appropriate length of screw.

An electrode assembly includes first and second electrode housings and a knife blade. The first and second electrode housings are operably coupled to one another and are configured to selectively couple to respective first and second jaw members to electrosurgically treat tissue clamped between the first and second jaw members. The knife blade is configured to selectively couple to the knife blade shaft.

An endoscopic surgical instrument is provided. The instrument includes a housing, a handle, an elongated shaft extending distally from the housing and defining a longitudinal axis, an end effector assembly, a drive assembly, a clevis, a first link, and a second link. The end effector assembly is disposed adjacent a distal end of the elongated shaft and includes a first jaw member and a second jaw member. The first link is pivotably connected to the clevis about a first pivot axis, and is pivotably connected to the first jaw member about a first jaw member pivot. The second link is pivotably connected to the clevis about a second pivot axis, and is pivotably connected to the second jaw member about a second jaw member pivot. The first pivot axis and the second pivot axis are offset from the longitudinal axis.

A surgical apparatus comprises a surgical staple for treating tissues of a patient in a surgical procedure. The surgical staple is deformable from a first configuration (e.g., an undeployed configuration) to a second configuration (e.g., a deployed configuration) in accordance with embodiments of the present invention. A tissue ablation device is provided for use in soft tissue and/or in bone. It is configured to include an inner probe with a first electrode and a second electrode and an outer needle through which the inner probe extends. After the inner probe is directed therewithin to a target, the outer needle can be withdrawn to expose space between the first and second electrodes to form an RF or other energy field for tissue ablation therebetween upon actuation of an energy source. Such embodiments may include methods for tissue ablation and placement of stabilizing materials.

A method of treating a target vessel having a wall may include providing a longitudinally elongated anvil, a channel defined substantially longitudinally in the anvil, and a knife rotatable into and out of the channel; rotating the knife from a stowed position substantially completely within the channel to an active position in which at least part of the knife extends upward out of the channel, wherein the rotating causes the knife to penetrate through the wall of the target vessel; translating the knife along the anvil to create an incision having a length; and rotating the knife from the active position to a withdrawal position substantially completely within the channel, wherein the rotating is in the same direction as the rotating the knife from the stowed position to the active position.

One exemplary surgical apparatus may include at least one carrier, staples fixed to a corresponding carrier, and a feeder belt to which at least one carrier is frangibly connected. Another exemplary surgical apparatus may include a feeder belt, a first plurality of staples fixed directly to and frangibly separable from the feeder belt; a plurality of extension arms extending at least partially in the lateral direction away from the feeder belt; and a second plurality of staples each fixed to an extension arm at a location spaced laterally apart from the feeder belt.

A system for connecting the end of a graft vessel to the side of a target vessel may include an anvil configured to enter the target vessel through an anvil entry hole in the wall of the target vessel; a holder movable relative to the anvil, where that holder may deploy at least one connector through the graft vessel and into the target vessel at a location spaced apart from the anvil entry hole; and at least one sealer that may be detachably connected to the anvil and/or said holder; where at least one sealer may be configured to substantially close the anvil entry hole in the target vessel. A method for performing anastomosis between a graft vessel and a target vessel may include inserting an anvil through the wall of the target vessel into the lumen of the target vessel from outside of the target vessel through an anvil entry hole; connecting an end of the graft vessel to the side of the target vessel with a plurality of connectors at a location spaced apart from the anvil entry hole; creating an opening in the side of the target vessel, where the opening is located within a perimeter defined by the connectors and spaced apart from the anvil entry hole; withdrawing the anvil through the anvil entry hole; and substantially sealing the anvil entry hole.

A method of performing anastomosis between a graft vessel and a target vessel, each having a circumferential wall and a lumen therethrough, may include providing an anastomosis tool including a tissue effector and a fluid-driven actuator operationally connected to that tissue effector; connecting the fluid-driven actuator to an energy source; placing an end of the graft vessel in proximity to the side of the target vessel; and actuating the fluid-driven actuator to connect the end of the graft vessel to the side of the target vessel.

One example of a surgical apparatus may include at least one resorbable feeder belt, and a plurality of staples fixed to that feeder belt. Another example of a surgical apparatus may include at least one feeder belt and at least one resorbable carrier detachably connected to a corresponding feeder belt, where the carrier includes a plurality of staples attached to it. An exemplary surgical method of treating tissue within the body of a patient may include providing a surgical instrument that includes an end effector moveable between an open configuration and a closed configuration, where the end effector includes an anvil and a staple holder pivotally connected to one another, where the anvil holds a knife; and at least one resorbable feeder belt and a plurality of staples fixed to the feeder belt, where the feeder belt extends into said staple holder; placing the end effector in proximity to tissue; deploying a plurality of staples into tissue; separating a distal segment of at least one feeder belt from a remainder of that feeder belt; and leaving that distal segment within the body of the patient.
