A composite textured helically wrapped multi-filament yarn, made up of two or more continuous filament textured yarns, each of which is of different color or dyeability from the other, each yarn being pigmented in a melt-spinning process, pre-dyed, or undyed with different dye affinities which are subsequently dyed, by wrapping the colored textured yarns into a composite yarn having repeated color change alternating cycles along its length, and the alternating cycles having between them a lengthwise color difference of about 15-97% or more on the circumferential surface of the yarn in either the red, green or blue primary colors, as measured by spectral analysis, between immediately adjacent lengths thereof, and each adjacent color length being between about 4 inches to 144 inches.

Method of making a wrapped composite color blended alternating color yarn

A composite textured air-entangled multi-filament yarn having two or more continuous filament feed yarns, each of which is of different color or dyeability from the other, each feed yarn being pigmented in a melt-spinning process, pre-dyed, or undyed with different dye affinities which are subsequently dyed, the feed yarns being combined into a composite yarn having repeated color change alternating cycles along its length, and the alternating cycles having between them a lengthwise color difference of about 15-95% or more on the circumferential surface of the yarn in either the red, green or blue primary colors, as measured by spectral analysis, between immediately adjacent lengths thereof, and each adjacent color length being between about 4 inches to 144 inches.

Color blended alternating color composite yarn

A novel yarn is a bundle of multifilament continuous supply yarns with two sequentially alternating lengths in a preselected ratio. The first length has alternating sections of entangled filaments and unentangled, crimped filaments alternating in closely, substantially randomly-variably spaced sequence. The second length has substantially unentangled, crimped filaments. The yarn has substantially uniform linear denier and the extent between nodes of the second length is greater than the extent between nodes of any of the second sections of the first length. The yarns made present a space dyed appearance, especially when multicolored supply yarns are employed, combined with varying textural effects. Apparatus for making the yarn has a source of crimped yarn, a transport for forwarding the supply yarn as a bundle, an entangling jet connected via a valve to pressurized fluid at a level to entangle yarn in the jet, programmed timed valve-sequencing to alternate the fluid supply to the jet between a yarn entangling condition and a nonentangling condition in a manner producing the novel yarn, and yarn overfeed transport and take-up means.

Apparatus for making novel textured yarn

A novel yarn is a bundle of multifiliment supply yarns, preferably at least two, with two alternating lengths in a selected ratio. The first length has alternating sections of entangled filaments forming nodes and unentangled, crimped filaments alternating in closely, substantially randomly-variable spaced sequence. The second length has substantially unentangled crimped filaments. The yarn is characterized by substantially uniform, linear denier and the extent of the second length from node to node is greater than the extent from node to node of any of the second sections of the first length. The yarn presents a space-dyed appearance, especially when multicolored supply yarns are employed, combined with varying textural, effects. Fabrics made of such yarns have novel and pleasing aesthetics. Novel apparatus for making the yarn is taught.
