A drilling and production system is provided. In one embodiment, such a system has a plurality of functions that are effectuated at least predominately without hydraulic fluid. The system can be a drilling system having a rig and a subsea stack for performing various drilling functions, in which a majority of the drilling functions are effected electrically without hydraulic control fluid. In another embodiment, the rig is coupled to a subsea wellhead assembly but is not connected so as to provide hydraulic control fluid from the rig to the subsea wellhead assembly to enable drilling functions of the subsea wellhead assembly. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.

Electrical drilling and production systems and methods

A drilling and production system is provided. In one embodiment, such a system has a plurality of functions that are effectuated at least predominately without hydraulic fluid. The system can be a drilling system having a rig () and a subsea stack () for performing various drilling functions, in which a majority of the drilling functions are effected electrically without hydraulic control fluid. A system and method for electronically controlling a reel system for oilfield operations. The electronically controlled reel system for oilfield operations comprises a reel, and an electronic control system in communication with the reel to electronically control rotation of the reel. The method of controlling a reel for an oilfield operation comprises receiving a command from an electronic control system; and supplying an electrical control signal to the reel based on the command to control rotation of the reel.

Electronically controlled reel system for oilfield operations

An accumulator for hydraulically actuating subsea equipment includes a hydraulic fluid chamber and a gas chamber. The hydraulic fluid chamber is in fluid communication with the subsea equipment and comprises a hydraulic piston slidably received, at least partially, within the hydraulic chamber. The gas chamber comprises a charge piston slidably received within the gas chamber, the charge piston dividing the gas chamber into a first portion and a second portion. The first portion of the gas chamber is configured to receive ambient hydrostatic pressure therein, and the second portion of the gas chamber is configured to receive precharge gas therein.

Subsea differential-area accumulator

An accumulator for a subsea blowout preventer unit including a blowout preventer includes a body. The body includes a hydraulic fluid chamber and a gas chamber. The hydraulic fluid chamber has a smaller inner diameter than the gas chamber. The accumulator further includes a hydraulic fluid port in fluid communication between the hydraulic fluid chamber and the subsea blowout preventer, a hydraulic piston slidably and sealingly mounted in the hydraulic fluid chamber, and a charge piston slidably and sealingly mounted in the gas chamber. A pressure port receives pressure to provide a force on the opposite side of the charge piston from the hydraulic piston.
