Techniques are described herein for incorporating fall prevention into a personalized activity plan. In various embodiments, a baseline risk of fall for a user may be estimated () based on baseline sensor signal(s) (). Based on a prediction model () (which may/may not be associated with the user) and the baseline risk of fall, respective risks of falls associated with various candidate activities may be predicted (), and then candidate activities may be determined or selected () based on the predicted respective risks of falls. Output indicative of the determined candidate activities may be provided () to the user, who may provide input () identifying one or more of the determined candidate activities as an exercise conducted or to be conducted by the user. Based on the exercise sensor signal(s), a subsequent risk of fall for the user may be estimated () and used to update () the prediction model.

System and method that optimizes physical activity recommendations based on risks of falls

A beam shaping device () comprising first () and second () substrates, a liquid crystal layer () sandwiched between the substrates, and a first electrode layer () provided on a side of the first substrate () facing the liquid crystal layer (). The beam shaping device is controllable between beam shaping states, each permitting passage of light through the beam shaping device, and further comprises an insulating layer () covering the first electrode layer () and a second electrode layer () provided on top of the insulating layer. The second electrode layer () comprises a conductor pattern exposing a portion of the insulating layer (). A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal layer, a common electrode, and an electrode set. The liquid crystal layer is placed between said common electrode and the electrode set, and the electrode set is provided for switching the liquid crystal layer. The electrode set includes a first electrode for switching a first area of the liquid crystal layer and a second electrode for switching a second area of the liquid crystal layer. Particularly, the second area includes at least a part of the area of the liquid crystal layer that the first area does not include. The first electrode has a shape which in cooperation with the second electrode allows alignment of the LC molecules in substantially two orthogonal directions. A method is provided to get rid of the circular polarizers which provide a good on-axis aperture ratio but which show reduced off-axis performance compared to linear polarizers.

A liquid crystal display device has pixels, and each pixel has a lower substrate and an upper substrate with a liquid crystal material in between. The each pixel also has an electrode structure between the lower substrate and the upper substrate. The electrode structure has electrodes, and each electrode has a polygon-shaped electrode surface and a plurality of electrode edges. The electrodes are arranged such that if an electrode edge is facing an electrode edge of an adjacent electrode then the electrode edge and the electrode edge of the adjacent electrode define a distance which is substantially constant along the entire electrode edge.
