Various aspects of the present disclosure provide for conditionally disabling discontinuous reception (DRX). For example, DRX may be disabled if there is a loss of DRX synchronization, a loss of signal radio bearer traffic, a poor radio frequency condition, a low signal-to-interference ratio estimate, a low transmit power condition, or a drop in transmit power. Various aspects of the present disclosure provide for determining that an access terminal and the network are not in synchronization (e.g., DRX synchronization), and attempting to re-synchronize the access terminal and the network. In cases where a loss of DRX synchronization involves one entity having DRX enabled while another entity has DRX disabled, DRX may be temporarily disabled until synchronization is restored. In cases where a loss of DRX synchronization involves different entities using different subframe indices, the subframe index used by one of the entities may be changed to restore synchronization.

Discontinuous reception techniques

The present disclosure describes a method and an apparatus for pruning false peaks during slot synchronization at a user equipment (UE). For example, a method is provided to identify a plurality of first peaks associated with a primary-synchronization channel (P-SCH) received at the UE and a plurality of second peaks from the plurality of first peaks. Further, one or more pruning locations along with associated energy thresholds for each of the plurality of the second peaks may be determined and whether a peak of the plurality of the first peaks is a false peak is identified based on whether the peak is located at one of the one or more pruning locations of the peak and an associated energy value of the peak does not satisfy the associated energy threshold of the pruning location. Furthermore, the peak identified as the false peak is discarded.

Techniques for pruning false peaks during slot synchronization at a user equipment

Various aspects of the disclosure provide a method of operating a user equipment (UE) to determine and report a throughput enhancing channel quality indicator (CQI) value when a physical channel between the UE and a base station is temporally uncorrelated. Reporting such CQI value may maximize the throughput of the channel when it remains temporally uncorrelated. In one aspect of the disclosure, the UE communicates with a base station utilizing a channel and determines that the channel is temporally uncorrelated. The UE further determines a plurality of CQIs in a first CQI reporting mode and computes the respective throughputs of the channel based on the plurality of CQIs. In addition, the UE selects a CQI of the plurality of CQIs corresponding to the highest throughput among the plurality of throughputs, and reports the selected CQI to the base station in a second CQI reporting mode while the channel remains temporally uncorrelated.

Method and apparatus for determining and reporting channel quality indicator for temporally uncorrelated channels

UEs are adapted to facilitate calculation of signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) estimates in closed-loop transmission diversity (CLTD) communications before downlink and uplink synchronization is achieved. A UE may receive a transmission sent using transmission diversity. According to one example, the UE may calculate a plurality of signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) estimates for the received transmission, where each signal-to-interference ratio estimate is calculated using a different weight factor. The UE may further select one of the calculated signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) estimates to be employed for the received transmission. According to another example, the UE may calculate a signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) estimate for the received transmission without employing any weight factor. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also included.

Devices and methods for facilitating signal-to-interference ratio estimates for closed-loop transmission diversity communications

Apparatus and methods include receiving one or more first signals at a user equipment (UE) during a first portion of a transmission time interval (TTI), wherein the one or more first signals are transmitted by a network to the UE using a transport format; determining the transport format upon receiving the one or more first signals and prior to a second portion of the TTI subsequent to the first portion of the TTI; and receiving one or more second signals at the UE during a second portion of the TTI.

Apparatus and methods for early transport format determination

Methods and apparatus for avoiding power scaling and controlling transmit power in uplink data transmission are provided. If a user equipment (UE) would be transmit-power limited when transmitting data concurrently on an uplink high speed dedicated physical control channel (HS-DPCCH) and an uplink data channel, the UE may forgo building data for transmission on the uplink data channel to avoid power scaling. If the UE would be transmit-power limited when transmitting data concurrently on an HS-DPCCH and a dedicated physical control channel (DPCCH), the UE may reduce the transmission power of a portion of the data transmitted on the DPCCH to avoid power scaling. The UE may also boost transmission power of a negative acknowledge transmission above network-specified power level.

Method and apparatus for avoiding power scaling in uplink data transmission

Access terminals are adapted to facilitate closed-loop transmit diversity in wireless communications systems. According to one example, an access terminal can calculate an uplink error rate for even slot indexes and a separate uplink error rate for odd slot indexes in an uplink frame to be transmitted. A respective downlink error rate can be estimated for an in-phase (I) component and a quadrature-phase (Q) component of a downlink transmission. The access terminal may further estimate a phase-related weight that was applied to the downlink transmission based on the downlink error rates and the uplink error rates. Devices and methods for facilitating closed-loop transmission diversity in wireless communications systems

Methods and apparatus are described for performing cell selection for reducing an initial acquisition time between a user equipment (UE) and a network entity, comprising measuring a signal from a cell, the signal including at least one system information block (SIB), wherein the at least one SIB includes a plurality of cell selection threshold values; attempting to decode the at least one SIB; determining, in response to successfully decoding the at least one SIB, whether one or more measurements of the signal pass or fail a cell selection criteria check that includes the plurality of cell selection threshold values; determining, in response to the cell selection criteria check failing, whether the plurality of cell selection threshold values are within range of a plurality of corresponding minimum network threshold values; and performing a cell selection procedure on the cell in response to determining that the plurality of cell selection threshold values are within range of the plurality of corresponding minimum network threshold values.

Disclosed are an apparatus and method for assessing decode reliability of voice, data and control channel transmissions. In an aspect, the apparatus and method are configured to receive one or more radio frames or parts of a frame on a downlink channel; demodulate the received one or more frames or parts of the frame; decode the demodulated one or more frames or parts of the frame; compute one or more demodulator-based metrics and one or more decoder-based metrics; combine the one or more demodulator-based metrics and the one or more decoder-based metrics using a reliability function that assesses reliability of the decoded one or more frames or parts of the frame; and accept or reject the decoded one or more frames or parts of the frame based on the assessment of the reliability of the decoded frames or parts of the frame.

Apparatus and method for assessing decode reliability of radio transmissions

Methods and apparatus for wireless communications are described. A method of wireless communications includes determining an energy for a first signal received at a first finger of a rake receiver after a reference signal is received at a second finger of the rake receiver, determining an energy for a second signal received at a third finger of a rake receiver before the reference signal is received at the second finger of the rake receiver, and selecting the first signal as a new reference signal when the energy of the first signal exceeds the energy of the second signal by a predefined threshold amount. In another aspect, a method includes assigning a signal received at a rake receiver to a finger of the rake receiver, and deassigning the finger if the signal has an energy level below a preselected lock threshold energy for a predefined time.

On cell/finger assignment for reduced cell delay spread

UEs are adapted to facilitate reconstruction of a segment of corrupted bits. According to one example, a UE can receive a control channel transmission such as a HS-SCCH transmission. The control channel transmission may include a plurality of information bits and a plurality of cyclic redundancy check (CRC) bits. The UE may further determine that a contiguous segment of the received information bits is corrupt. The UE may accordingly utilize the uncorrupted information bits and CRC bits to reconstruct the corrupt information bits. In some instances, the UE may utilize the uncorrupted bits to reconstruct the corrupt information bits using a new generator polynomial. In other instances, the UE may utilize the uncorrupted bits to reconstruct the corrupt information bits using the original generator polynomial.

Aspects of the present disclosure provide an apparatus and methods for detecting and handling a spurious Dedicated Physical Channel (DPCH) of a cell in an active set from a mobile station side. A user equipment determines a signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) for each channel of a plurality of channels associated with cells maintained in an active set. A spurious DPCH has the lowest SIR among the plurality of channels. The user equipment puts the detected spurious DPCH in an exclusion mode in which the spurious DPCH is excluded from at least one of channel decoding or SIRE calculation, while maintaining the cell associated with the spurious DPCH in the active set.

Apparatus and methods of HSPA transmit power control

Disclosed are systems and methods for controlling by the User Equipment (UE) downlink power in early decode termination mode. In one aspect, the UE may be configured to perform early decoding of a downlink (DL) transmission from a base station. The UE further configured to estimate a signal-to-interference ratio (SIRE) of the DL transmission. Based on the SIRE, the UE is configured to select a Transmission Power Control (TPC) command sequence for a low power mode of operation of the UE in which a receiver is powered down. The UE is further configured to activate the low power mode and transmit the selected TPC command sequence to the base station to adjust a DL transmission power during the low power mode.
