A bearing element may include a bearing substrate and a sliding layer of a sliding layer material. The sliding layer material may include a polymeric material and nanodiamonds. The nanodiamonds may also be surface-functionalized nanodiamonds. The bearing element may be suitable for automotive applications, including, but not limited, use within automotive engines.

Bearing element and sliding layer material for a bearing element

A bearing element may include a bearing element substrate and a sliding layer applied to a surface of the bearing element substrate. The sliding layer may be formed of a sliding layer material. A surface roughness (Ra) of the surface of the bearing element substrate may be less than 1 &#x3bc;m. The sliding layer material may include a polymeric material and iron oxide. The sliding layer may have at least three layers of the sliding layer material.

Bearing element and method of manufacturing a bearing element

A half bearing for a sliding bearing may include a bearing substrate having at least one relief region provided in a surface of the half bearing, and a substrate adjacent respective end faces of the bearing substrate. The half bearing may further include a polymer in-fill having a non-uniform thickness provided in a filled region, wherein the thickness of the polymer in-fill in the filled region may be greater proximate the respective end face than remote from the respective end face.
