Organic polymer compositions can be made flame-retardant by addition of selected organic phosphate and other components, such as known flame-retardants or conventional additives for further improvements, e.g. in flame retardancy or light stability.

Flame-retardants

A mixture of a polyester, such as poly(ethylene terephthalate) PET, or a polyamide, and a suitable stabilizer selected from the group consisting of hydroxylamine stabilizers, substituted hydroxylamine stabilizers, nitrone stabilizers and amine oxide stabilizers, when extrusion compounded exhibits a lower residual acetaldehyde content than does polyester or polyamide alone when similarly treated. The invention pertains to any polyester or polyamide used in the manufacture of molded articles, fibers or films, for instance bottles or containers which are used to store consumer materials, for example food, beverages and water.

Polyester and polyamide compositions of low residual aldehyde content

Polyamide-6 articles exhibit dramatically improved dye bleed and perspiration performance characteristics, as well as reduced color change of fluorescent dyed polyamide-6. These improvements are achieved according to the present invention by modifying conventional dyeing and aftertreatment conditions. That is, conventional temperatures used for dyeing and the aftertreatment of polyamide-6 yarns are typically about 100&deg; C. and 77&deg; C., respectively. In contrast, the dyeing and aftertreatment procedures of this invention are carried out at about 80&deg; C. or lower, and about 5&deg; C. or lower, respectively. Bath ratios of between about 15:1 to about 20:1 are employed with the polyamide-6 article being retained in the bath sufficient to achieve about 75% dye uptake.
