An automated transaction machine () includes a note receiving storage and dispensing mechanism (). The mechanism () includes a stacker mechanism (). The stacker mechanism collects in a stack notes such as currency bills that are to be dispensed from the machine to a user, and the stack is then presented to the user from the machine. The stacker mechanism includes a stack support member (), a flexible member () and spaced supports (). Notes are engaged in supporting connection with the stack support member as the stack support member is rotated in a first rotational direction. After the stack is accumulated, rotation of the stack support member in an opposed rotational direction delivers the stack from the stacker mechanism.

An automated teller machine (ATM) () includes a display device (), an input device (), a cash acceptor (), and a cash dispenser (). The ATM also has access to a network, such as the Internet. The ATM enables a user thereof to make online purchases of goods and to receive from the user a cash payment for the purchase through a cash acceptor. The ATM administrator pays the merchant who supplies the goods. An ATM may be operative to also dispense purchased digital content and/or gift certificates. Purchased goods may also be hand delivered to an indicated address. The ATM may be further operative to charge a user fee for transactions.

An ATM () includes a housing () including a generally L-shaped chest portion () and an upper housing portion (). The ATM includes a fascia () which extends on the outside of a wall () and includes a user interface (). Responsive to inputs of a user through the user interface the machine is operative to accept a stack of sheets () which are evaluated through operation of a sheet validator device () and which enables acceptable sheets to be stored within the chest portion. Unacceptable sheets are routed to a storage area (). Provisions are made for reducing the risk of attack on the ATM by criminals and to facilitate servicing by authorized personnel.

Deposited items after being accepted in the machine and processed are moved to the container (). The container includes an interior area () which is bounded by a shaker member () on which deposit items are supported. The machine is operative to control operation of an actuator () which moves the shaker member to impart shaking motion to deposited items () to facilitate the compact storage thereof within the container. The container is enabled to be removed from the machine to facilitate removal of the deposited items. Movement of the container out of and away from the machine is facilitated by rollable supports () and a retractable handle ().

An automated banking machine () includes a user interface (). The user interface includes a card reader (), receipt printer opening (), cash dispensing opening () and deposit accepting opening (). A stack of notes () input to the machine are separated one by one from the stack through the action of at least one picking member () and at least one stripper member (). The actions of non-contact stripper rolls and a contact stripper roll are generally effective to only enable a single note to move past the stripper members. Upon sensing that multiple notes have moved past the stripper members with a sensor () the system is operative to return notes to the stack for subsequent picking trials. In some cases the stripper members may be driven so as to move notes engaged therewith relative to a note engaged with the stripper member so as to reorient the notes and facilitate note separation in subsequent picking events.

The invention relates to an automated transaction machine of the recycling currency type. The machine permits a merchant to both store and withdraw cash. The machine also permits a customer to withdraw cash. The automated transaction machine includes a chest portion and a top housing portion. The portions have a front side and a rear side. The rear side of the machine is primarily intended for use by the merchant. The front side of the machine is primarily intended for use by a customer. The merchant side of the chest portion includes an inlet opening for inserting cash and an outlet opening for dispensing cash. The customer side of the chest portion also includes an outlet opening for dispensing cash. The top housing portion includes a separate user interface on the merchant side and a separate user interface on the customer side.
