A system includes: a reductant injection system for injecting reductant into an exhaust gas based on an injection parameter or a supply parameter; and a controller configured to: access a current engine condition parameter, wherein the current engine condition parameter includes at least one of an engine fuel flow rate, an engine air flow rate, an engine boost pressure, an engine intake pressure, an engine load, an engine rotational speed, an engine cylinder temperature, an engine cylinder pressure, or an engine fuel pressure, determine one or more control parameters based on a control model and as a function of the accessed current engine condition parameter, and modify a value of the injection parameter or the supply parameter based on the one or more control parameters to control a reductant spray momentum, a reductant droplet momentum, or a reductant momentum vector.

Real-time control of reductant droplet spray momentum and in-exhaust spray distribution

A system for controlling reductant spray momentum for a target spray distribution includes an exhaust system having an exhaust conduit with exhaust flowing therethrough, a reductant injection system for injecting reductant into the exhaust flowing through the exhaust system based on one or more injection parameters, a reductant supply system for supplying reductant to the reductant injection system based on one or more supply parameters, and a controller. The controller is configured to access current vehicle, engine, exhaust, or reductant condition parameters, determine one or more control parameters based on a control model and the accessed current vehicle, engine, exhaust, or reductant condition parameters, and modify a value of the one or more injection parameters or the one or more supply parameters to control the reductant spray.

A controller for a refrigeration system includes a processing circuit having one or more processors and memory. The processing circuit is configured to calculate a superheat of a gas refrigerant exiting a first side of a subcooler based on a measured temperature and a measured pressure of the gas refrigerant and compare the calculated superheat to a superheat threshold. In response to a determination that the calculated superheat is less than the superheat threshold, the processing circuit closes an expansion valve to restrict a flow of the gas refrigerant through a second side of the subcooler. In response to a determination that the calculated superheat is equal to or greater than the superheat threshold, the processing circuit operates the expansion valve to drive a temperature of a subcooled liquid refrigerant exiting the second side of the subcooler to a subcooled liquid temperature setpoint.

A refrigeration system includes an evaporator within which a refrigerant absorbs heat, a gas cooler/condenser within which the refrigerant rejects heat, a compressor operable to circulate the refrigerant between the evaporator and the gas cooler/condenser, a high pressure valve operable to control a pressure of the refrigerant at an outlet of the gas cooler/condenser, and a controller. The controller is configured to automatically generate a setpoint for a measured or calculated variable of the refrigeration system based on a measured temperature of the refrigerant at the outlet of the gas cooler/condenser. The setpoint is generated using a stored relationship between the measured temperature and a maximum estimated coefficient of performance (COP) that can be achieved at the measured temperature. The controller is configured to operate the high pressure valve to drive the measured or calculated variable toward the setpoint.

A process for controlled heating of a sensor of an aftertreatment system comprising accessing several parameters, including an exhaust mass flow, an outlet temperature, an ambient air temperature, and an ambient air velocity, calculating a temperature of the sensor based on a thermal model and the accessed parameters, comparing the calculated temperature to a threshold temperature, and activating a controlled heating process for the sensor responsive to the calculated temperature being below the threshold temperature. The controlled heating process can include activating a heater to heat the sensor.

A system for controlling reductant spray momentum for a target spray distribution includes an exhaust system having an exhaust conduit with exhaust flowing therethrough, a reductant injection system for injecting reductant into the exhaust flowing through the exhaust system based on one or more injection parameters, a reductant supply system for supplying reductant to the reductant injection system based on one or more supply parameters, and a controller. The controller is configured to access current vehicle, engine, exhaust, or reductant condition parameters, determine one or more control parameters based on a control model and the accessed current CZ vehicle, engine, exhaust, or reductant condition parameters, and modify a value of the one or more injection parameters or the one or more supply parameters to control the reductant spray.

A refrigeration system includes a subcooler configured to provide subcooling for a liquid refrigerant flowing through a first side of the subcooler by transferring heat from the liquid refrigerant to a gas refrigerant flowing through a second side of the subcooler. An expansion valve is located at an inlet of the second side of the subcooler and configured to control a flow of the gas refrigerant through the second side of the subcooler. A gas temperature sensor and a gas pressure sensor are configured to measure a temperature and pressure of the gas refrigerant. A liquid temperature sensor is configured to measure a temperature of the subcooled liquid refrigerant. A controller is configured to calculate a superheat of the gas refrigerant based on the measured temperature and measured pressure of the gas refrigerant and may compare the calculated superheat to a superheat threshold. If the calculated superheat is less than the superheat threshold, the controller may close the expansion valve. If the calculated superheat is equal to or greater than the superheat threshold, the controller may operate the expansion valve using a feedback control technique to drive the temperature of the subcooled liquid refrigerant to a subcooled liquid temperature setpoint.

A controller for a dosing module including a pump, an inlet manifold coupled to the pump, a nozzle, an outlet manifold coupled to the nozzle, a first branch coupled to the inlet manifold and the outlet manifold and having a first flow restrictor and a first valve, a second branch coupled to the inlet manifold and the outlet manifold and having a second flow restrictor and a second valve, and a sensor coupled to the inlet manifold and the outlet manifold, includes an input/output interface and a processing circuit. The input/output interface is configured to electronically communicate with the first valve and the second valve. The processing circuit configured to selectively cause the first valve to be in a first valve first position, in which the first valve facilitates fluid communication from the inlet manifold to the outlet manifold through the first branch, and a first valve second position.

Reductant delivery systems and methods

A reductant dosing system includes: a doser; a fixed displacement pump in fluid communication with the doser; a reductant source in fluid communication with the fixed displacement pump; and a controller communicatively coupled to the fixed displacement pump to control operation of the fixed displacement pump, wherein the controller is programmed to operate the fixed displacement pump using a pressure control system responsive to data indicative of the doser not dosing reductant and the controller is programmed to operate the fixed displacement pump using a flow control system responsive to data indicative of the doser dosing reductant.

A method for diagnosing feedgas generation capacity of an oxidation catalyst in an exhaust aftertreatment system includes: determining a first temperature value at a first location in the exhaust aftertreatment system upstream of an oxidation catalyst, the oxidation catalyst being upstream of a selective catalytic reduction catalyst; determining a space velocity of the exhaust in the oxidation catalyst; determining an estimated exotherm value of the oxidation catalyst based on the first temperature value and the space velocity; instructing a doser of the aftertreatment system to dose hydrocarbon into the oxidation catalyst; determining an in-use exotherm value of the oxidation catalyst upon insertion of the hydrocarbon into the oxidation catalyst; and determining a fault condition based upon a comparison between the estimated exotherm value and the in-use exotherm value.
