A cellular antenna having at least one MIMO array has at least a first group of elements arranged in horizontal rows and vertical columns and at least a second group of elements arranged in horizontal rows and vertical columns. The first group and the second groups are arranged at least partially side-by side on said antenna. The elements of the first group are arranged in at least one vertical column of elements that is exclusive to elements of the first group. The elements of the second group are arranged in at least one vertical column of elements that is exclusive to elements of the second group. The antenna includes at least one separate common vertical column of elements, that includes elements of both said first group and the second group of elements.

An antenna element for use in a cellular base station antenna has a feed network and at least two radiating arms at the top of the network and arranged at an approximately 90 degree position relative to one another. The at least two radiating arms are constructed from a plurality of substantially identically dimensioned unit cells.

Antenna element with spatial filtering property using frequency selective unit cell building blocks

A cellular base station antenna is provided with a plurality of radiating elements arranged among a plurality of columns disposed over a reflector. In accordance with one embodiment, the first array of antenna elements and second array of antenna elements are arranged across three vertically arranged columns. At least a first array of antenna elements includes at least some of said plurality of radiating elements on each one of the columns operating together to produce a first antenna beam. At least a second array of antenna elements includes at least some other of the plurality of radiating elements on each one of the columns so as to operate together to produce a second antenna beam. As such, each of the three vertically arranged columns include at least some elements from both the first array and the second array.

A cellular antenna includes at least a first array of elements arranged in horizontal rows and vertical columns and at least a second array of elements arranged in horizontal rows and vertical columns. The antenna includes at least one separate middle vertical column of elements, between the at least one vertical column of elements that is exclusive to elements of the first array and the at least one vertical column of elements that is exclusive to elements of the second array, where the middle vertical column of elements includes some elements in the first array and some elements in the second array.

A beamforming cellular antenna includes a plurality of patch elements and a plurality of dipole elements. The plurality of patch elements and dipole elements are arranged on a planar array of said antenna into a plurality of rows and columns of elements. Each column of elements forms a sub-array connected to a plurality of signal input ports. Each column sub-array includes a plurality of both patch elements, and a plurality of dipole elements.

An omni-directional small cell base station antenna includes at least one array of a first frequency on a lower portion of the antenna, at least one second array of a second frequency on an upper portion of the antenna, and at least one third array of a third frequency on the upper portion of the antenna. The at least one second array at a second frequency includes a plurality of reflector plates with antenna elements of the second frequency thereon, and the at least one third array at a third frequency includes a plurality of reflector plates with antenna elements of the third frequency thereon. The reflector plates of the at least one second array are interspersed between the reflector plates of the at least one third array such that the reflector plates of the second and third arrays alternate around the circumference of the upper portion of the antenna.

Method and apparatus for isolation enhancement and pattern improvement of high frequency sub-arrays in dense multi-band omni directional small cell antennas

A cellular beamforming base station antenna is provided having a reflector, a plurality of signal ports located at the bottom of said reflector, a calibration circuit, a plurality of beamformers, coupled to the signal ports, and a plurality of radiating elements, coupled to the beamformers. The plurality of radiating elements are arranged into a plurality of vertically aligned columns disposed across a width of the reflector, the plurality of radiating elements are each also positioned in one of a plurality of horizontally aligned rows along the length of the reflector. Elements in one of the plurality of rows of elements are connected to at least a first of the plurality of beamformers. Elements in another of the plurality of rows of elements are connected to a second of the plurality of beamformers. Outputs of the first and second beamformers are connected to the calibration circuit which is connected to different ports located on a bottom of the reflector.

A wideband bisector antenna has a plurality of antenna elements disposed in horizontal rows, a left beam bi-sector array segment at one section of the antenna comprising a plurality of the horizontal rows of elements, and a right beam bi-sector array segment at one section of the antenna comprising a plurality of the horizontal rows of elements. At least one horizontal row on the antenna is shared in both the left beam bi-sector array segment and the right beam bi-sector array segment.

An antenna array with control circuitry placed at a front of the antenna array and between the antenna elements. By locating the azimuth beamforming network control circuitry on the front of the array and between antenna elements, the antenna elements and the other components can be coupled to the control circuitry without using cables. This leads to a reduction in the number of cable connections and to a reduction in size and weight of the resulting antenna array. The ABFN control circuitry is also used to control the beams formed from each row and not from each column as is usually done.

A multi-band generalized antenna architecture using two or more types of antenna element is presented. Linear arrays of a first type of antenna element are used for one or more frequencies while a second antenna element type is used for other frequencies. The second type of antenna element is located between the linear arrays of the first antenna element type. The second antenna element type may be arranged in a staggered configuration or they may be arranged as linear arrays as well. The first type of antenna element may be a patch antenna element while the second type of antenna element may be a dipole antenna element. The patch antenna element may be used for high band frequencies while the dipole antenna element may be used in low band frequencies. The spacing in vertical direction is not equal to minimize the effect of arrays on each other.

Simplified multi-band multi-beam base-station antenna architecture and its implementation

Systems and devices relating to antennas and antenna systems. A horizontal omnidirectional antenna has two dipoles with each dipole being in a V-configuration such that the arms of the dipole define an angle. The two dipoles are arranged so that the angles defined by each of the dipoles face and open toward each other. The horizontal omnidirectional antenna can be configured to operate with specific frequency bands. By nesting two instances of this antenna, with one configured for high band frequencies and one configured for low band frequencies, a dualband omnidirectional antenna can be obtained. The resulting antenna is physically compact and can be used in small MIMO systems along with vertical omnidirectional antennas.

Dual dipole omnidirectional antenna

A dipole antenna array element using crossed dipoles is provided. The arms of the crossed dipoles are spaced apart from a ground plane. The length of the arms of the crossed dipoles, as well as the height of the array element, is dependent on the lowest wavelength of signal for which the element is to be used with. To adjust the impedance of the antenna array element, a strip of conductive material is used to enclose an area about the arms of the dipoles. A patch component can also be used with the arms being between the patch component and the ground plane.

Systems and devices relating to dipole antennas. The beamwidth of a crossed dipole antenna is widened by providing a parasitic monopole antenna adjacent to the crossed dipole antenna. In one configuration, each arm of the crossed dipole antenna has, adjacent to it, a parasitic monopole antenna. In another configuration, the crossed dipole antenna is surrounded by a number of other crossed dipole antennas acting as parasitic monopole antenna elements. The center or primary crossed dipole antenna can be for low band signals while the secondary crossed dipole antennas are for high band signals.
