A millimeter wave radar-equipped headlamp includes a millimeter wave radar that detects an object ahead of a vehicle, and a lighting device unit that irradiates an area ahead of the vehicle. The lighting device unit incorporates an antenna module of the millimeter wave radar. The lighting device unit includes a projection lens, a light source, a reflector, and a shade. The antenna module includes a millimeter wave waveguide, and a millimeter wave reflection mirror. A reflection surface of the millimeter wave reflection mirror is formed by a spheroidal surface having a first focal point located in the vicinity of the opening of the millimeter wave waveguide, and a second focal point located forward of the rear focal point.

The invention relates to a dielectric lens useable in both the radio wave band and the light wave band, and a device using this dielectric lens. The device comprises a dielectric lens formed of a transparent dielectric member small in dielectric loss and having an omnidirectional feature with regard to an electromagnetic wave, a transparent dielectric shell that is hollow inside and having the radius that is equal to the focal distance of the dielectric lens, and a holding mechanism for positioning and holding the dielectric shell and the dielectric lens so as to locate the dielectric shell at a position along the focal distance with the dielectric lens included at the inner center of this dielectric shell. The device is provided, at the focal point of the dielectric lens, with a reflector for reflecting an electromagnetic wave or a generator for generating an electromagnetic wave.

The reflectarray comprises an array of patch elements (-). Each patch element has a cut ring shape formed of a conductive ring with at least one crossing gap. The outer diameter and inner diameter and crossing gap are adjusted so that a phase shift &#x3b2; defined by the following relations is different from zero: &#x3c6;(E)=&#x3c6;(E)+&#x3b1; (1) &#x3c6;(E)=&#x3c6;(E)+&#x3b1;+&#x3b2; (2) where: &#x2212;&#x3c6;(E) and &#x3c6;(E) are the phases of the orthogonal components and of the reflected wave, respectively, &#x2212;&#x3c6;(E) and &#x3c6;(E) are the phases of orthogonal components and of the incident wave, respectively, &#x2212;&#x3b1; is a phase angle.

Reflectarray and a millimetre wave radar

In the case of the electromagnetic waves of a band with a short wavelength, in an antenna opening, the technical subject which conflicts between loss of electromagnetic waves and the mechanical strength of a member exists. This invention was made in view of such a problem, and aims at offering a radome with little cover of electromagnetic waves, absorption of electromagnetic waves, and dispersion of electromagnetic waves by the member of a radome. It aims at offering a strong and lightweight radome cheaply.
