A coating formed on a surface of a base material, the coating composition containing an ionic polymer (a), a hygroscopic agent (b) and a solvent, the hygroscopic agent (b) being a granular crosslinked product of a monovalent metal salt of a poly(meth)acrylic acid and being contained in an amount of 75 to 700 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of the ionic polymer (a), and the coating having a haze of 5% or less and a maximum surface roughness Ra (JIS B-0601-1994) of 0.1 &#x3bc;m or less.

Coating composition

A water barrier laminate () including a plastic base material () that faces the atmosphere of a high water content, as well as a first inorganic barrier layer (), a water-trapping layer () and a second inorganic barrier layer () formed in this order on the plastic base material () on the side that does not face the atmosphere of the high water content, wherein an auxiliary water-trapping layer () is formed on the second inorganic barrier layer () on the side opposite to the water-trapping layer () to trap the water from the side surface, the auxiliary water-trapping layer () being located on the surface that faces the atmosphere of a low water content or being located in a region at a distance of not more than 20 &#x3bc;m from the surface that faces the atmosphere of the low water content.

Water barrier laminate

A water-barrier laminate having a water-trapping layer () in which a hygroscopic agent is dispersed, wherein a hygroscopic agent has such a hygroscopic property that the ratio (Ax/Ay) of a hygroscopic amount Ax at a relative humidity of 80% and a hygroscopic amount Ay at a relative humidity of 30% is not less than 3, and the water-trapping layer is positioned between the two inorganic barrier layers () and (). The water-barrier laminate exhibits barrier property against the water over extended periods of time.

Water-barrier laminate

A gas-barrier laminate () of a structure in which a first inorganic barrier layer (), a water-trapping layer () and a second inorganic barrier layer () are provided in this order on a plastic base material (), wherein the water-trapping layer () is a layer in which a granular moisture-absorbing agent is dispersed in a matrix of an ionic polymer, the granular moisture-absorbing agent being capable of absorbing moisture to a degree lower than that attained by the matrix, and an organic layer () is provided between the water-trapping layer () and the second inorganic barrier layer (), the organic layer () serving as an underlying layer for forming the second inorganic barrier layer. The water-trapping layer has excellent barrier property against water and is, at the same time, effectively suppressed from swelling despite it has absorbed moisture. The water-trapping layer is, further, effectively suppressed from losing its activity.

Gas-barrier laminate having favorable water-barrier property

Hygroscopic particles including a crosslinked polymer containing 6.0 to 12.0 meq/g of carboxyl groups and 0.1 to 2.0 meq/g of sulfonic acid groups and/or sulfonate groups, 80% or more of the carboxyl groups being neutralized to a potassium salt.
