A method for producing a catalyst for unsaturated carboxylic acid synthesis is proposed. The method includes: obtaining a dried product by drying and heat-treating a starting material mixed liquid in which supply source compounds of respective catalyst component elements are integrated; and forming a catalyst precursor by supporting powder to be supported on a carrier in the form of a particle aggregate. The powder to be supported is either the dried product or obtained from the dried product. The method further includes calcining the catalyst precursor to form the catalyst. The mass loss rate of the powder to be supported at 300° C. is less than 5 percent by mass, and the difference between the mass loss rate of the powder at 370° C. and the mass loss rate of the powder at 300° C. is not less than 1 percent by mass and not more than 6 percent by mass.

A composite oxide catalyst for the oxidation of an olefin containing Mo and Bi as essential components, characterized in that it has a specific surface area of 5 to 25 m/g and a pore volume of 0.2 to 0.7 cc/g, and has a pore diameter distribution wherein the volume of the pores having a pore diameter of 0.03 to 0.1 &#x3bc;m accounts for 30% or more of the total pore volume, the volume of the pores having a pore diameter of 0.1 to 1 &#x3bc;m accounts for 20% or more of the total pore volume, and the volume of the pores having a pore diameter of less than 0.03 &#x3bc;m is 10% or less of the total pore volume; a composite oxide catalyst for use in the vapor phase catalytic oxidation of acrolein or methacrolein or the like which comprises Mo, Bi and a halogen; either of the above two composite oxide catalysts which comprises Mo, Bi, Fe, Si and an element selected from alkali metals and thallium, and optionally Co, Ni, Mg, Ca, Zn, Ce, Sm, a halogen, B, P, As and W; a method for preparing any of the above composite catalysts; and a method for using any of the above composite oxide catalysts.

Process for producing catalyst for production of unsaturated aldehyde and unsaturated carboxylic acid

A catalyst for producing from an olefin the corresponding unsaturated aldehyde and unsaturated carboxylic acid in good yield, and a process for its production, are presented. Catalyst for production of unsaturated aldehyde and unsaturated carboxylic acid, and process for its production

A process for producing a composite oxide catalyst to be used for gas phase oxidation of an olefin or unsaturated aldehyde with molecular oxygen to produce the corresponding unsaturated aldehyde and/or unsaturated carboxylic acid, which has a uniform constant high performance, in an industrial scale and efficiently and constantly, is presented. The process comprises a step of molding a catalyst component-containing powder and a step of calcining a molded product obtained in the molding step, wherein the molding step is a step wherein graphite particles having an average particle diameter Dof from 10 to 50 &#x3bc;m and having a combustion initiating temperature in a differential thermogravimetric analysis higher by at least 50&#xb0; C. than the calcination temperature in the next calcination step, are added to the catalyst component-containing powder in an amount of from 0.5 to 10 wt %, based on the powder, followed by molding, and the calcination step is a step wherein the calcination is carried out at a temperature of at least 250&#xb0; C. and lower by at least 50&#xb0; C. than the combustion initiating temperature of the graphite particles.
