A radiation detector includes: a light detection panel that has a light-receiving unit, and a bonding pad that is electrically connected to the light-receiving unit; a scintillator layer that is provided on the light detection panel to cover the light-receiving unit; and a protective layer that is provided on the light detection panel to cover the scintillator layer. An outer edge portion of the protective layer has an adhesive portion that is in close contact with the light detection panel in a region between the scintillator layer and the bonding pad, and an extension that extends from the adhesive portion to an opposite side of the light detection panel in a self-supporting state.

A chirp compensation dielectric multilayer film mirror () reflects an incident light in a predetermined wavelength range and has group delay characteristics that prevent at least one of the dielectric multilayer film mirror () and a light transmission portion from applying a phase disturbance to an incident light within the predetermined wavelength range. Therefore, all the wavelength components of the incident light in the predetermined wavelength range are reflected by the chirp compensation dielectric multilayer-film mirror (), and no additional undesired phase disturbance occurs by the dielectric multilayer film mirror () and the light transmission portion. Accordingly, a spatial light modulator () enables a desired modulation only by a liquid crystal layer without giving an additional undesired phase disturbance to an output light.

In a spatial light modulation device using a reflection type spatial light modulator, read light is a P-polarized light that falls incident on the light reflection layer at a slant. Liquid crystal in the light modulation layer is oriented so as to incline, in association with the application of voltage by the driving circuit , within a plane that is parallel to a normal plane which includes the optical axes of both of the incident, read light and the output, modulated light.

A spatial light modulating device includes: an electrically-addressed type element for being addressed by electric signals representing information to be written, the electrically-addressed type element including an image display portion having a pixel structure, the electrically-addressed type element being inputted with write light; an optically-addressed type spatial light modulator including a thin film material portion and a pair of substrates, the thin film material portion being provided between the pair of substrates, the thin film material portion having an optical addressing layer and a light modulation layer which are provided one on the other, the optically-addressed type spatial light modulator being inputted with read light; and a compensation layer having a predetermined thickness and provided between the image display portion and the thin film material portion.

Spatial optical modulating device

A signal image is transmitted by write light from a transmission type liquid crystal element to an optically-addressed type parallel-aligned nematic-liquid-crystal spatial light modulator . The numerical aperture NA of a relay lens , the pitch P of the pixel structure of the transmission type liquid crystal element , and the wavelength &lgr; of light from the write light source are set with the condition 1/2P<NA /&lgr;<1/P. As a result, the signal component caused by the pixel structure can be erased. Furthermore, no degradation is generated in the entire range of the spatial frequencies of the signal image that can be produced by the transmission type liquid crystal element

Spatial light modulator and spatial light modulating method

In a spatial light modulator of the present invention, a photoconductive layer formed of photoconductive material receives write light having a spatial distribution in its intensity and changes resistivity of the photoconductive material dependently on the spatial distribution in the intensity of the received write light. A liquid crystal layer formed of liquid crystal molecules of nematic phase receives read light and presents birefringence with respect to the received read light. An electric voltage is applied through the photoconductive layer and the liquid crystal layer to thereby produce an electric field in the liquid crystal layer. The photoconductive layer changes the electric field produced in the liquid crystal layer in accordance with the resistivity of the photoconductive material so as to electrically control the birefringence of the liquid crystal molecules. The liquid crystal layer modulates the received read light in accordance with the birefringence which is electrically controlled in accordance with the spatial distribution in the intensity of the write light received by the photoconductive layer.

Phase-only optically-addressed type spatial light modulator

In an optical detector, a light source irradiates coherent light onto an objective. A Fourier transform lens receives the light diffracted and scattered at the objective and Fourier transforms the light to generate a Fourier image, the Fourier image having a high intensity spectral component corresponding to the periodic pattern on the objective and a low intensity spectral component corresponding to the abnormal portion. In an optically-addressed spatial light modulator, each of the optically-addressing part and the light modulating part receives the Fourier image at the corresponding portions. A threshold driving controller controls the spatial light modulator in its threshold operation so as to change a state in the light modulating part at a region where the high intensity spectral component of the Fourier image is incident while preventing the state from being changed in the light modulating part at a region where the low intensity spectral component of the Fourier image is incident, the changed state in the light modulating part modulating the high intensity spectral component of the Fourier image incident in the light modulating part. Thus, the modulated high intensity spectral component is separated from the unmodulated low intensity spectral component.

Optical detector employing an optically-addressed spatial light modulator

An object is typically illuminated by laser light, and reflected light carrying a speckle pattern is amplified by an image intensifier. First and second speckle patterns representing the object before and after its deformation, respectively are written by double writing into a ferroelectric liquid crystal spatial light modulator (FLC-SLM). The double-written image is read out from the FLC-SLM, and converted by a Fourier transform optical system into an output optical image, i.e., Young's fringe. The output optical image is detected by a photoelectric converter, and analyzed by an image processing device to determine a deformation of the object.
