The invention is an increased effectiveness of allylamine drug compounds for topical treatment of fungal infections of skin and skin appendages. The allylamine active ingredient is prepared in an acidic environment; the acidic environment altering the physiochemical properties of the active ingredient resulting in the active ingredient having a positive charge. The positive charge and enhancers used in the formula allow for increased penetration of the active ingredient through skin and skin appendages. The positively charged active ingredients are either dissolved in the vehicle directly or dissolved in a plurality of beads suspended in the vehicle. The bead structure minimizes the molecular diffusion of the positively charged active ingredient and a catalytic species through the bead structure, thus stabilizes the positively charged active ingredient inside the bead by impeding the interaction of the positively charged active ingredient and the catalytic species, and thereby extending the shelf life of the positively charged active ingredient.

The present invention provides compositions comprising allylamine drug compounds for topical treatment of fungal infections of the skin and skin appendages. The present invention is a medical infusion and aspiration system capable of accurate pulsate delivery of high rates off flow. The system comprises a pumping mechanism, a cassette housing, a plunger and a cartridge having a reservoir area, an encoded area and a neck opening for connection to an infusion tube with an in-line sensor area where sampling probes are located. The cartridge is in threaded connection with the housing and the plunger fits within the reservoir area. The encoded area allows for an optical or electromagnetic strip containing information as to the contents and uses of the contained reagent, thus minimizing dosage mistakes. A motor is linked to the housing and causes bi-directional rotation of the plunger in relation to the housing. The plunger rotation breaks the forces of inertia and slip-stick as well as eliminate backlash. The system eliminates the need for withdrawing medicine with a needle and achieves extraordinary accuracy without error correcting software or expensive volumetric measurement and control systems.

The liposomes are at least partially freeze-dried to improve shelf-life and improve delivery to the skin. After freeze-drying, the liposomes are deposited on or in a fabric-like pad. The liposomes are rehydrated either immediately prior to application to the skin or on the skin using natural moisture or a hydrating solution. An applicator is also provided to secure and hold the impregnated pad during use. The applicator may provide steam or vapor to rehydrate the liposomes during application.

Collateral damage to the surrounding skin tissue is minimized. The delivery process uses liposomes selected particularly to encapsulate and carry melanin to the target region. The invention also encompasses a general method of deleterious tissue destruction by selective introduction of melanin and subsequent photothermolysis.
