An elastomeric composition suitable for use in belts like transmission belts may comprise: from 5 to 100 phr of a propylene-α-olefin-diene (PEDM) terpolymer comprising 80 wt % to 97.5 wt % propylene, 2.5 wt % to 20 wt % a-olefin, and 0.5 wt % to 10 wt % diene, said wt % based on the weight of the PEDM terpolymer, and wherein the PEDM terpolymer has (a) Mooney viscosity (ML(1+4)) of 1 MU to 60 MU, (b) melt flow rate of 0.5 g/min to 100 g/min, and (c) a weight average molecular weight to n-average molecular weight (Mw/Mn) ratio of 1.5 to 3.0; and from 60 to 95 phr of an ethylene-based copolymer comprising 0 wt % to 95 wt % ethylene, 0 wt % to 10 wt % of one or more dienes, and 5 wt % to 60 wt % C3 to C12 α-olefin, said wt % based on the total weight of the ethylene-based copolymer.

Ethylene-based copolymer and propylene-alpha-olefin-diene compositions for use in layered articles

A multilayer structure can include at least one layer that comprises an ethylene propylene diene copolymer compound that comprises: 60 parts per hundred rubber (phr) to 95 phr of a first ethylene propylene diene copolymer (EP(D)M) having an ethylene content of 62 wt % to 90 wt % based on the first EP(D)M and a heat of fusion (H) of 15 J/g or greater; 5 phr to 40 phr of an second EP(D)M having an ethylene content of 40 wt % to 60 wt % based on the second EP(D)M and a Hof 0 J/g to 14 J/g, wherein the Hof the first EP(D)M minus the Hof the second EP(D)M is 5 J/g or greater; wherein the first EP(D)M and second EP(D)M combined are 100 parts; a filler at 40 phr to 500 phr; and a curing agent at 0.5 phr to 20 phr.

Ethylene propylene copolymer compounds for use in layered articles

A propylene-&#x3b1;-olefin-diene (PEDM) terpolymer may comprise 75 to 95 wt % propylene, 5 to 20 wt % &#x3b1;-olefin, and 0.5 to 5 wt % diene, said wt % based on the weight of the PEDM terpolymer. The propylene-&#x3b1;-olefin-diene terpolymer may be blended with an ethylene-based copolymer and optionally a variety of additives to form an elastomeric composition. An exemplary elastomeric composition includes 5 to 40 parts by weight per hundred parts by weight rubber (phr) of the PEDM terpolymer, 60 to 95 phr of the ethylene-based copolymer, and optionally additives like carbon black, zinc dimethacrylate, paraffinic oil, zinc oxide, and/or zinc stearate.

Elastomeric propylene-alpha-olefin-diene terpolymer compositions

Described herein are propylene-based polymer compositions that comprise a reactor blend of a first polymer component and a second polymer component. The first polymer component has an ethylene content of from greater than 12 to less than 19 wt % ethylene, and the second polymer component has an ethylene content of from greater than 4 to less than 10 wt % ethylene. Preferably, the ethylene content of the first and second polymer components satisfy the formula:&#x2212;1.7143+29.771&#x2264;&#x2264;&#x2212;1.9167+37.25.The propylene-based polymer compositions are particularly useful for forming meltspun nonwoven compositions that exhibit a desirable balance of retractive force and permanent set.

Polymer compositions and nonwoven compositions prepared therefrom

A compound suitable for use in producing articles including foamed articles can include 100 parts per hundred rubber (phr) of a branched ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) elastomer comprising 35 wt % to 70 wt % ethylene derived units, 20 wt % to 64 wt % propylene derived units, and 1 wt % to 10 wt % diene derived units, wherein the EPDM elastomer has a Mooney viscosity (ML) (1+4) at 125&#xb0; C. of 30 MU to 120 MU, a corrected Mooney relaxation area (cMLRA) at 80 ML of 300 MU&#xb7;sec to 1000 MU&#xb7;sec, and long chain branching (LCB) g' (vis) of 0.80 to 1.0; 75 phr to 200 phr of a filler; 25 phr to 125 phr of a processing oil; 5 phr to 50 phr of a curative, and optionally 0.1 phr to 25 phr of a foaming agent.

Elastomeric formulations comprising branched EPDM polymers

Disclosed herein is a composition comprising from 5 to 20 parts by weight per hundred parts by weight rubber (phr) of a propylene-&#x3b1;-olefin-diene (PEDM) terpolymer comprising 1 to 10 wt % diene, 5 to 40 wt % &#x3b1;-olefin, and 15 to 85 wt % propylene, said wt % based on the weight of the PEDM terpolymer; and from 80 to 95 phr of an ethylene-based copolymer comprising ethylene, one or more Cto C&#x3b1;-olefins, and, optionally, one or more dienes; wherein the amount of ethylene content of the ethylene-based copolymer (in wt % on the basis of total weight of the ethylene-based copolymer) is greater than the amount of &#x3b1;-olefin content of the PEDM terpolymer (in wt % on the basis of total weight of the PEDM terpolymer).

Elastomeric terpolymer compositions for corner molding applications

Compositions are provided which include blends of (A) branched and/or bimodal ethylene copolymers and (B) linear ethylene copolymers. The branched and/or bimodal ethylene copolymers may be produced using a dual metallocene catalyst system comprising two different metallocene catalysts: one capable of producing high Mooney-viscosity polymers and one suitable for producing polymers having at least a portion of vinyl terminations. The linear ethylene copolymers may be produced using a metallocene catalyst capable of producing high Mooney-viscosity polymers, which may be the same as such catalyst of the dual metallocene catalyst system. Processes for making such blends, including parallel and/or series polymerization processes, are also provided. The blends may have excellent cure properties suitable in curable rubber compound applications.

Ethylene copolymer blends for cross-linking applications

In some embodiments, the present disclosure provides a composition comprising from 5 phr to 30 phr of a PEDM terpolymer having 1 to 10 wt % diene, 13 to 40 wt % ethylene, and 15 to 85 wt % propylene, based on the weight of the PEDM terpolymer. The composition further comprises from 70 phr to 95 phr of an ethylene-based copolymer comprising an ethylene content different than the first polymer, a Cto C&#x3b1;-olefin, and, optionally, one or more dienes.

Elastomeric propylene-ethylene-diene terpolymer compositions

A composition comprising vinyl-terminated polyethylene having an Mn from about 200 g/mol to about 10,000 g/mol; and a comb polyolefin having polyethylene arms attached to a random copolymer backbone, said backbone including units derived from an alpha-olefin having 3 or more carbon atoms, where the polyethylene arms have an Mn from about 200 g/mol to about 10,000 g/mol, and where the comb polyolefin has an Mp from about 7,500 to about 400,000 g/mol.

Polyolefin compositions

Processes are provided which include copolymerization using two different metallocene catalysts, one capable of producing high Mooney-viscosity polymers and one suitable for producing lower Mooney-viscosity polymers having at least a portion of vinyl terminations. The two catalysts may be used together in polymerization to produce copolymer compositions of particularly well-tuned properties. For instance, polymerizations are contemplated to produce high-Mooney metallocene polymers that exhibit excellent processability and elasticity, notwithstanding their high Mooney viscosity. Other polymerizations are also contemplated in which lower-Mooney metallocene polymers are produced, which also exhibit excellent processability and elasticity, while furthermore having excellent cure properties suitable in curable elastomer compound applications. Many of the contemplated polymerizations include controlling the ratio of the two metallocene catalysts used in the polymerization so as to obtain the desired Mooney viscosity and desired rheology (indicated by Mooney Relaxation Area) of the copolymer compositions.

Propylene-based elastomers for roofing compositions and methods for preparing the same

This invention relates to the use of quinolinyldiamido transition metal complexes and catalyst systems with an activator and a metal hydrocarbenyl chain transfer agent, such as an aluminum vinyl-transfer agent (AVTA), to produce branched propylene-ethylene-diene terpolymers.

Branched EPDM polymers produced via use of vinyl transfer agents and processes for production thereof

Provided herein are polymerization processes and polymer compositions including reactor blends formed by such polymerization processes. The polymerization processes include copolymerization using two metallocene catalyst systems: the first catalyst system capable of producing polymers having 60% or more vinyl terminations, the second catalyst system capable of producing high molecular weight polymers, preferably incorporating at least some of the polymers produced by the first catalyst system into the high molecular weight polymers. The reactor blends formed thereby therefore include first and second copolymer components, which may differ in monomer content and weight-average molecular weight (Mw). Furthermore, the reactor blends may exhibit advantageous rheological properties, at least some of which are consistent with long-chain branching. Preferred reactor blends comprise ethylene-propylene-diene (EPDM) terpolymers.

Polymer compositions and processes for their production

Processes are provided which include copolymerization using one or both of a metallocene catalyst capable of producing high molecular weight polymers and a metallocene catalyst capable of producing polymers having 60% or more vinyl terminations. Polymerization processes include dual catalyst polymerization in a single polymerization zone comprising both metallocene catalysts. Other processes include serial or parallel polymerizations in multiple polymerization zones, using either or both catalysts in each polymerization zone. Such polymerization processes produce reactor blends, and are particularly suited for producing copolymer compositions (such as EP or EPDM copolymer compositions) exhibiting improved melt elasticity and rheological properties.
