In Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite networks data routes for point to point and point to multipoint communication sessions in LEO satellite networks are determined by considering session bandwidth, priority, and the constantly changing terminal-satellite and satellite-satellite connectivity. Multiple routes are computed for a session to facilitate automatic adaptive rerouting by satellite payloads when they encounter network failures or congestion conditions.

Method and system for determination of routes in LEO satellite networks with bandwidth and priority awareness and adaptive rerouting

A payload switching architecture for LEO satellite networks minimizes processing and storage requirements of payloads for deployment as small primary or secondary payloads, payloads perform only forwarding functions. Forwarding rules are provisioned in the payloads enabling them to reroute in case of failures or congestion without intervention from a ground station. Configuration rules are provisioned in the payloads enabling them to dynamically establish and remove interplane crosslinks without intervention from a ground station. The central network operations center on the ground computes forwarding rules and configuration rules for payloads and uploads the rules to the payloads.

Context aware adaptive switching in reconfigurable low earth orbit satellite networks

In a distributed management scheme for LEO satellite networks interactions between a satellite and the designated fixed center occur according to a time schedule and only when the designated center is in the coverage area of the payload. For exception/alarm reporting and real-time configuration updates the interaction varies with time. Interactions of this type occur between a satellite and the management center that is 'nearest' to the payload or satellite at the time instant at which the network event occurs or configuration upload is needed. The nearest management center for a payload is the center that can be reached from the payload with fewest number of crosslink hops. A central network operation center determines, prior to payload launch, the association between satellites and management centers for routine information exchange, and the nearest management center for the payload for different snapshots of time.

Distributed management of LEO satellite networks with management agility and network efficiency

At least one substitute path is provided in place of a plurality of existing paths of a network to reallocate traffic carried by the plurality of existing paths. The total bandwidth needed to carry the traffic of the plurality of existing paths is determined. A proposed route is generated from the available links in the network. A portion of the bandwidth of a proposed route may be allocated to the needed bandwidth when the bandwidth of a proposed route is greater than or equal to the needed bandwidth. When the bandwidth of the proposed route is less than the needed bandwidth, at least one further route is generated, and the needed bandwidth is divided among the proposed route and the at least one further route such that a minimum number of further routes are generated.

Dynamic traffic rearrangement and restoration for MPLS networks with differentiated services capabilities

Methods and systems for information dissemination in mobile ad hoc networks founded on Content Based Routing. The method comprises encoding, via an encoding logic within the source node, a plurality of information categories associated with the content in a header of the packet, encrypting the packet with an encryption key unique to the plurality of information categories, with the encrypted packet having a unique dissemination group identity in its header, and disseminating the encrypted packet to nodes that have subscribed to the data based on the dissemination group identity. The system comprises a host within the source node, an identity generator to generate the dissemination group identity for the content, an encryption unit for encrypting the content, and a routing unit to disseminate the content to the dissemination mesh based on established subscriptions.

Secure content based routing in mobile ad hoc networks

Systems and methods for efficiently provisioning and assuring Quality of Service (QoS) between user networks communicating over a DiffServ-enabled network, with QoS management transparency to SIP user agents. The system comprises user networks communicating via a core network, each user network having a source and destination SIP user agent respectively, a SIP proxy server between the source SIP user agent and destination SIP user agent, a Bandwidth Manager to provision a pipe between the source user network and the destination user network, wherein the pipe has a specified bandwidth, and a QoS Agent for accepting and/or rejecting a SIP session based on availability of bandwidth in the pipe; wherein the SIP proxy server is configured to forward an incoming SIP request to the QoS Agent. The method comprises provisioning a pipe between the SIP user agents or their respective user networks, and allowing/rejecting incoming SIP sessions based on the available bandwidth in the pipe.

Systems and methods for QoS provisioning and assurance for point-to-point SIP sessions in DiffServ-enabled MPLS networks

A system and method for determining an efficient assignment of information categories to multicast addresses is described. In one embodiment, the assignment takes into account the overlapping info cation needs of the subscriber nodes and the network bandwidth that will be consumed in the dissemination of each information category based on its size and the frequency of dissemination. In another embodiment, the assignment takes into consideration the additional constraint of a quality of service network having different prioritizations associated with the information categories.

In one aspect a method for correlating network events in a network comprises correlating the events relating to paths with events relating to links traversed by paths. In another aspect, the method includes correlating the events based on whether paths traversing the network share network resources, such as links. A system and method of rearranging Label Switched Paths (LSPs) and rerouting traffic in a DiffServ-enabled Multi-Protocol Label Switched (MPLS) network is disclosed. The system periodically monitors network performance, and rearranges LSPs and reroutes traffic through existing or new Label Switched Paths (LSPs) based on network performance and network bandwidth utilized by various DiffServ classes.

Dynamic traffic rearrangement to enforce policy changes in MPLS networks

A policy change management scheme for network resource management through dynamic policy adaptations especially suitable for DiffServ-enabled MPLS networks is presented. The scheme incorporates automated resource adaptation capabilities to assure QoS for user traffic and to promote resource utilization in DiffServ-enabled MPLS networks. A suite of resource management policies, an ordered set of methods for adjusting policies, and interfaces to a companion policy-based network management system are provided. The policies are periodically adjusted based on predictive bandwidth estimation algorithms ensuring optimal resource allocation to individual service classes and enabling adjustment of resources for handling current traffic and traffic expected for the near future. Resource allocations to individual service classes are adapted through policy changes when bandwidth utilization deviates from normal level or congestion exists in one or more service classes, allowing corrections to abnormal allocation of resources in incipient phases of congestion.
