A method for controlling treatment of an industrial water system is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of providing an apparatus for controlling delivery of at least one treatment chemical, the apparatus comprising at least one sensor and an electronic input/output device carrying out a protocol; measuring a parameter of the industrial water system using the at least one sensor; relaying the measured parameter to the electronic device; adjusting the protocol based on the measured parameter; delivering a concentrated treatment chemical into a stream of the industrial water system according to the adjusted protocol, the concentrated treatment chemical comprising an active ingredient, the active ingredient traced as necessary, the active ingredient having a concentration; repeating the measuring, the adjusting, and the delivering; and optionally repeating the steps for n-number of parameters, n-number of active ingredients, and/or n-number of concentrated treatment chemicals.

Treatment of industrial water systems

A method of measuring contamination in fluid that is expelled from a food processing system is presented. The method of measuring is carried out with fluorescence. The fluid is typically allowed to enter into an energy transfer system, but if the contamination exceeds a certain level, the fluid should be prevented from entering the energy transfer system. The fluid is generally comprised of water expelled from a sugar processing operation.

A solid-state fluorometry instrument is provided. The instrument is based on either diode laser or light-emitting diode (LED) excitation sources that are capable of being used in a wide range of applications. The solid-state diode laser based fluorometer instrument monitors fluorescent tracers, particularly suitable for industrial water sample stream applications. Using the instrument, a solid-state diode laser or light-emitting diode (LED) is used as an excitation source to excite fluorescent tracer molecules. The fluorescence resulting from the diode laser excitation is imaged with a lens onto a silicon photodiode detector. An optical filter is placed between the sample cell and the photodiode detector to reject scattered laser light. The output from the photodiode is amplified to produce an output voltage proportional to the quantity of fluorescence striking the photodiode detector. Since fluorescence is proportional to the concentration of a fluorophore present in the sample stream, continuous monitoring of a voltage output may be performed which further allows real time measurement of concentration of a fluorescent tracer present in, for example, a sample stream.

Method for using an all solid-state fluorometer in industrial water system applications

The invention comprises adding bromide to a cooling water system containing corrosion and scale control treatment chemicals at elevated concentrations (40 ppm or greater). A fraction of the recirculating water is drawn off in a side stream and ozonated. Ozone oxidizes bromide to bromine which then serves as a biocide. The bromide levels are chosen such that the ozone/bromide reaction is preferred over the ozone/treatment chemicals reaction. Thus, the addition of bromide at elevated concentrations, while acting as a biocide precursor, serves to protect treatment chemicals necessary for corrosion and scale control.
