A version update method is provided for updating a version of a communication system application program installed in a plurality of terminals connected to a communication network and operating between at least two terminals. The method includes: starting communications between the two of the plurality of terminals; exchanging version information of the communication system application program between the two terminals communicating with each other and making a comparison between the version information held in one terminal and that in the other; making a request for transmitting the communication system application program file of the version not held in either terminal; and transmitting the communication system application program file of the specified version to the terminal making the request.

Method of updating a version of an application program

A bandwidth used in communication processing to transmit and receive different types of information via a communication line is monitored. A priority definition file previously defining the processing priority of information corresponding to a combination of the different types of information transmitted and received is provided. When the monitor result of monitoring the bandwidth indicates that the amount of information being transmitted/received is a given value or more, the priority definition file is referenced, the appropriate bandwidth for the information being transmitted/received is set in accordance with the processing priority, and the bandwidth of the information being transmitted/received is controlled based on the setup appropriate bandwidth.

Participant terminals which are to be connected to a promoter terminal are configured by speaker terminals which are enabled to perform two-way communication with the promoter terminal, and audience terminals which are enabled to perform one-way communication with the promoter terminal. The connection line number M of participant terminals which are connected to the promoter terminal is set to M=2S+T where S is the number of connected speaker terminals and T is the number of connected audience terminals. As a result, the total amount of communication is suppressed to S&#xd7;(K&#x2212;1) (K=S+T) as compared with the conventional art in which all participant terminals are configured by speaker terminals.
