There is provided a portable apparatus capable of detecting a touch position where a user touches the portable apparatus and a touch strength with which the user touches the portable apparatus. The portable apparatus includes: a rectangular frame on which a display panel unit is to be mounted; four touch detection-dedicated legs respectively extending from vicinities of four corners of the frame; a first strain gage attached to each of the touch detection-dedicated legs; and a calculation unit that finds the touch position and the touch strength based on an output of the first strain gage.

Portable apparatus

A planar illumination device according to an embodiment, including: a light guiding plate having one of a pair of opposite principal surfaces serving as a light emission surface; a light source arranged at a side surface connecting end edges of the pair of principal surfaces of the light guiding plate; and a frame, in which the light guiding plate is arranged. The frame is formed of plural frame members arranged along side surfaces of the light guiding plate. The plural frame members are configured to include a resin frame member and a metal frame member, and to have a joint portion between the resin frame member and the metal frame member, the joint portion arranged at end portions of the resin frame member and the metal frame member.

Planar illumination device

A spread illuminating apparatus includes an LED, a transparent resin plate and a light reflecting sheet, wherein the transparent resin plate includes slits adapted to have inserted therein flap portions of the light reflecting sheet, and wherein an adhesive tape with flexibility is placed along at least one flap portion of the light reflecting sheet so as to cover at least one slit of the transparent resin plate, whereby the light reflecting sheet is prevented from warping or undulating in spite of difference in thermal expansion coefficient between the materials of the transparent resin plate and the light reflecting sheet, and also whereby light emitted from the LED and traveling in the transparent resin plate is totally reflected by the flap portions and therefore prevented from leaking from the outer side surfaces of the transparent resin plate.

Spread illuminating apparatus

A spread illuminating apparatus of side light type includes a transparent resin plate integrally composed of a light conductor plate portion and a housing frame portion, a light reflecting sheet, and a light source, wherein an opening for housing the light source is provided at a side portion of the transparent resin plate, slits are provided along a boundary between the light conductor plate portion and the housing frame portion, and wherein a gate for injecting resin into a molding die cavity for the transparent resin plate is positioned outside the boundary of the light conductor plate portion and the housing frame portion and is positioned also between the opening and one of slits which are provided toward the side portion of the transparent resin plate having the opening and which are located clear of the opening.

A spread illuminating apparatus of side light type includes a transparent resin plate, a reflector disposed at one major surface of the transparent resin plate, and a light source disposed in a light source space formed toward one end of the transparent resin plate, wherein the reflector includes a main part having a rectangular shape and fold parts formed at peripheral edges of the main part so as to rise up therefrom, slits are formed through portions of the transparent resin plate located inside and off its peripheral edges, and wherein the fold parts of the reflector are inserted though the slits of the transparent resin plate.
