An optical disc device that reads information recorded in an optical disc medium includes an objective lens that focuses light on the optical disc medium, a spherical aberration correction mechanism that changes an amount of spherical aberration of the objective lens according to a setting value of a predetermined parameter, and an evaluation value measurement section that measures an evaluation value indicating the accuracy of reading of information from the optical disc medium. The optical disc device further includes a control section that executes adjustment processing in which the control section carries out plural times of measurement of the evaluation value by the evaluation value measurement section concurrently with changing the amount of spherical aberration of the objective lens by the spherical aberration correction mechanism and calculates an optimum setting value of the parameter based on plural evaluation values obtained by the plural times of measurement.

Provided is an optical disc device capable of correcting a value of a control parameter during an operation of reading information from an optical disc medium. The optical disc device for reading the information recorded on the optical disc medium under an operation condition corresponding to a value set with respect to a predetermined control parameter corrects the value of the predetermined control parameter by repeatedly executing, while an operation of reading the information from the optical disc medium is being performed, processing of: acquiring, with respect to two values of the predetermined control parameter, evaluation values indicating accuracy of the reading of the information from the optical disc medium, respectively; and updating the value of the predetermined control parameter based on the two acquired evaluation values.

An optical disc apparatus controls a relative position of an optical pickup with respect to a surface of an optical disc medium according to an output signal output from the optical pickup according to information recorded on the optical disc medium to implement servo control for maintaining a state where the information is readable, acquires an evaluation value for information reading accuracy when the servo control is implemented, and calculates a set value of a parameter to be set for the implementation of the servo control based on evaluation values respectively acquired for at least three set values of the parameter while changing the set value of the parameter for the servo control. The optical disc apparatus determines the set value to be set for further acquiring the evaluation value according to the evaluation values acquired for at least two set values of the parameter.

A recording and reproducing apparatus includes optical head means for writing and reading information expressed by a mark and a space on an optical recording medium by irradiating laser light to the optical recording medium, laser-drive pulse generating means for creating and supplying a laser-driving pulse in accordance with information to write to the optical head means and causing the optical head means to perform the irradiation of laser light for writing, mark edge error detecting means for detecting an error of the edge position of the mark from a signal read out from the optical recording medium by the optical head means; and adjustment control means for defining the adjustment on a laser-driving pulse generated by the laser-driving pulse generating means.
