An image recording apparatus includes a controller configured to control a conveyor and an image recording engine to perform borderless image recording. To perform the borderless image recording, the controller performs, when a medium length is equal to or less than a particular length, a first enlargement process to enlarge an image to a size with a first overhang area by which the enlarged image extends beyond an image recording target area, the first overhang area having an overhang width of a first value. The controller further performs, when the medium length is not equal to or less than the particular length, a second enlargement process to enlarge the image to a size with a second overhang area by which the enlarged image extends beyond the image recording target area, the second overhang area having an overhang width of a second value smaller than the first value.

Image recording apparatus, computer-readable storage medium, and method for appropriately enlarging image in borderless image recording

An image reading apparatus, having a conveyer, a sheet tray, an obtaining device, a memory, a determining device, and a controller, is provided. The controller determines whether information concerning pixels in the memory indicates edge positions or edge absence in in read-image data concerning a sheet, detects an upstream leading-end position and a downstream leading-end position, detects upstream continuing pixels and downstream continuing pixels, detects an upstream lateral-end position and a downstream lateral-end position, calculates a line representing an upper end of the sheet based on the upstream leading-end position and the downstream leading-end position, calculates an upstream corner position and a downstream corner position based on the upstream and downstream lateral-end positions and the line representing the upper end of the sheet, and calculates a width of the sheet based on the upstream corner position and the downstream corner position.

Image reading apparatus

In an image reading device, a reading unit reads information at a reading position. The reading position is selected from lines arranged in a prescribed range in a sub-scanning direction. A processor detects whether there is a defective pixel in one line worth of pixels and stores a position of the detected defective pixel as a defective position in a storing unit. The processor calculates defective factors for normal positions. Each of the normal positions indicates one of the plurality of lines having no defective pixel. The closer a distance between the normal position and a defective position positioned within a specific range from the normal position is, the larger a defective factor of the normal position is set. The processor sets a position having a smallest defective factor from among the normal positions. The reading unit reads the original conveyed by the sheet conveying unit at the set position.

An image reader includes a reading unit that is configured to read an image on a document sheet to generate read data, a counting unit that is configured to count a number of pixels of the read data having more than a predetermined gray level, a determining unit that determines that the document sheet is blank when the number of pixels counted by the counting unit is not exceeding a threshold value, a display unit that is configured to display the number of pixels counted by the counting unit and the threshold value when the document sheet has been determined to be blank, in a manner that the number of pixels can be compared with the threshold value, and a changing unit that changes the threshold value.
