Disclosed is a highly effective macrophage phagocytosis-activating composition and/or composition promoting cytokine production in macrophages using an active component derived from natural products. A culture obtained by culturing microorganisms belonging to the genus(sp.) is used as the active component of the macrophage phagocytosis-activating composition and/or composition promoting cytokine production in macrophages. By means of the macrophage phagocytosis-activating composition and/or composition promoting cytokine production in macrophages, macrophage phagocytosis can be activated, and cytokine production in macrophages can be promoted. In particular, a macrophage phagocytosis-activating composition can activate the phagocytosis of cancer cells or cells damaged or destroyed by anticancer drugs.

It is intended to utilize &#x3b2;-glucan produced by a bacterium belonging tosp. From a bacterium belonging tosp., a mutant with little pigment accumulation is constructed by a mutagenesis means of, for example, irradiating with ultraviolet light or treating with a mutagen. A culture obtained by culturing this mutant in a liquid culture medium is usable as a composition with a large &#x3b2;-glucan content without showing any intense dark green color caused by the accumulation of melanin-like pigments. This composition may be taken as such as a functional food having the physiologically active functions of the &#x3b2;-glucan-containing composition. Alternatively, it may be added to foods, drinks. food additives, cosmetics and so on.

A hydraulic actuator operation controller is shown to make it possible to easily change the operation speeds of a hydraulic actuator for a control input of an operating instrument. A signal input from a control input detection device for detecting the control input of an operating lever is converted according to a logical function by a signal conversion unit. Hydraulic jacks are provided for pivoting the boom relative to the vehicle, the arm relative to the boom, and the bucket relative to the arm. During each cutting operation the actual bucket speed relative to the arm and the actual arm speed relative to the boom are sensed and referred to a set of fuzzy control rules for obtaining command values for controlling the boom, arm and bucket jacks. The fuzzy control rules are so determined and utilized as to enable the machine to automatically take a cut in a manner suiting the hardness or other characteristics of the soil.

A torque control system for variable delivery pumps receiving torque from an engine employs a signal related to an engine torque available at each engine speed setting to control the torque, and thus the amount of engine power that is absorbed by the variable delivery pumps. In a low-power regime, wherein the fuel injected into the engine is less than maximum, torque control is effected by comparing the available torque with an amount of torque that would be available at maximum fuel injection. In a high-power regime, wherein the fuel injected is at least a predetermined value, torque contol is effected by comparing the available torque with an amount of torque that is available at a combination of a set engine speed and an actual engine speed. A bias circuit biases the stable speed operating point a small amount below the maximum speed, whereby improved fuel economy is attained. In a system with more than one variable delivery pump, when less than the full number of pumps is employed, control is effected in the low-power regime, even though all pumps in service are receiving maximum fuel.
