In an apparatus for controlling supply power to a conductive porous carrier of a catalyst converter for cleaning an emission, a moisture determiner determines whether moisture is contained in and/or on the conductive porous carrier. A power controller controls supply power to the conductive porous carrier for energization of the conductive porous carrier such that a value of the supply power to the conductive porous carrier when it is determined that the moisture is contained in and/or on the conductive porous carrier is lower than a value of the supply power to the conductive porous carrier when it is determined that the moisture is not contained in and/or on the conductive porous carrier.

Apparatus for controlling supply power to conductive carrier of catalyst converter

An apparatus is used for diagnosing the temperature state of a catalyst converter. The catalyst converter includes a catalyst for cleaning an emission, and a conductive carrier for carrying the catalyst. The conductive carrier is energized for temperature rise of the catalyst, and the conductive carrier has a characteristic in which resistance drops with temperature increase. In the apparatus, a first obtaining unit obtains a first parameter having a first correlation with supply power to the conductive carrier for energization of the conductive carrier. A second obtaining unit obtains a second parameter having a second correlation with a temperature of the conductive carrier. A diagnosing unit diagnoses the temperature state of the conductive carrier based on a comparison between the first parameter and the second parameter.

Apparatus for diagnosing temperature state of carrier of catalyst converter

In an apparatus, a temperature obtainer obtains, in a learning mode of the apparatus during a conductive carrier being deenergized a, value of a carrier temperature based on a physical parameter correlative with the carrier temperature and different from a carrier resistance. A resistance obtainer instantaneously energizes, in the learning mode, the conductive carrier to obtain a value of the carrier resistance during the instant energization. A calculator obtains, in a normal operation mode of the apparatus after the learning mode, a value of the carrier resistance, and calculates, in the normal operation mode, a value of the carrier temperature based on: the obtained value of the carrier resistance in the normal operation mode, and a pair of the value of the carrier temperature and the value of the carrier resistance obtained in the learning mode.

Apparatus for calculating temperature of conductive carrier of catalyst converter

In an emission control system, an absorbent in an exhaust-emission passage absorbs a particular component in the emission with a temperature thereof being lower than a first temperature, and desorbs therefrom the absorbed particular component with the temperature thereof being equal to or higher than the first temperature. A catalyst in the exhaust-emission passage converts the particular component desorbed from the absorbent into another component with a temperature thereof being equal to or higher than a second temperature higher than the first temperature. A heat recovery device is disposed in the exhaust-emission passage upstream of the absorbent and recovers heat from the exhaust emission by heat exchange between a heat-transfer medium and the exhaust emission. An adjusting unit adjusts an amount of heat to be recovered by the heat recovery device to thereby adjust a temperature state of the exhaust emission.

An abnormality diagnosis device is for an exhaust heat recovery equipment including an exhaust heat absorption part absorbing exhaust heat from an engine, a heat release part releasing at least part of the heat absorbed by the absorption part to engine coolant, a circulation loop passing through the absorption part and the release part, the medium circulating around the loop, and an opening and closing valve disposed in the loop between the absorption part and the release part. The equipment closes the valve to stop circulation of the medium when coolant temperature is a preset temperature or above. The device includes an abnormality determination device for determining whether the valve is in an abnormal opening state based on a heat amount transmitted from exhaust heat to coolant through the equipment, when coolant temperature is the preset temperature or above and thereby the valve is closed if the valve is normal.

Abnormality diagnosis device for exhaust heat recovery equipment

A control system for a vehicle has an engine control unit for an engine and a generator control unit for a power generator driven by the engine. The engine control unit calculates a permissive power generation torque, which is permitted to be used by the power generator, in accordance with a response delay of the engine. The generator control unit calculates a command power to be generated by the power generator so that a battery voltage variation and an engine speed variation are suppressed to be less than respective allowable variation limits, when a power difference is caused between a required power and a permissive power generated by the permissive torque.

A method for calibrating a rotation angle sensor having a magnet, a magnetic detector disposed in a magnetic field of the magnet for outputting a detected value indicative of a direction of the magnetic field that varies in accordance with a rotation angle of a rotatable member, and an output circuit which transforms the detected value to an output value in accordance with a transforming characteristic and outputs the output value, the method entailing: assembling the magnet, the magnetic detector and the output circuit to a device that has the rotatable member; rotating the rotatable member to a predetermined reference angle; measuring the detected value or the output value as a measured value when the rotatable member is at the reference angle; and setting the transforming characteristic based on the measured value so that the output circuit outputs a reference output value at the reference angle.

Rotational angle output regulating method

If outputs of a couple of Hall ICs constituting a throttle valve position sensor are within an operating range of throttle valve position, and if a relationship between the outputs are within a predetermined error range, both the Hall ICs are determined to be normal. In contrast, if the outputs are equal to an upper clamp voltage or a lower clamp voltage, and if a relationship between the outputs is out of the predetermined error range, at least one of the Hall ICs is determined to be abnormal. Furthermore, if the outputs are within a failure reference voltage range, it is determined that there is an abnormality between the throttle valve position sensor and an ECU. In this way, abnormalities in the sensor and abnormalities between the sensor and the ECU can also be detected.

Method and apparatus for processing output of position measurement sensor

Hall ICs constituting a redundant throttle valve position sensor are used to measure a rotational angle value indicative of a position of a throttle valve and a temperature value indicative of an ambient temperature change, which is continuously monitored, around the Hall ICs. The rotational angle value measured by the Hall ICs is appropriately adjusted based on the measure temperature value of its own, and a throttle valve position is determined in an externally connected ECU based on the adjusted angle value. In addition, the temperature value measured by one Hall IC is inputted to the ECU. In the ECU, various control values, such as a resistance value of an electric motor, can be appropriately adjusted based on the measured temperature value.

Adjustment method and system for adjusting various temperature characteristics

A basic cylinder-charged air quantity is determined by a first-order delay processing of an intake air quantity per rotation. Next, an estimated value of a change portion of the cylinder-charged air quantity caused by a change in intake valve timing is computed on the basis of engine speed, throttle opening angle, displacement angle of the intake valve timing. Then, the estimated value of the change portion of the cylinder-charged air quantity is processed second-time by the first-order delay. A difference between the estimated value of a change portion of the cylinder-charged air quantity and a value obtained by processing the estimated value second-time by the first-order delay is added as a delay correction to the basic cylinder-charged air quantity, thereby obtaining an actual cylinder-charged air quantity with a change in the intake valve timing.

A misfiring detecting system for an internal combustion engine includes a first misfire determination unit for comparing an engine rotational speed variation amount computed by an engine rotational speed variation amount computing unit, which computes a variation amount of the engine rotational speed, with a misfire determination value set by a misfire determination value setting unit and determines the occurrence of misfiring in the internal combustion engine on the basis of a result of the comparison, and a second misfire determination unit for determining the occurrence of misfiring in the internal combustion engine on the basis of: a result of comparison of a value indicative of a variation between engine rotational speed variation amounts computed by the engine rotational speed variation amount computing unit in the current and immediately preceding cycles, respectively, with a first set value; and a result of comparison of a value indicative of a variation of variation between engine rotational speed variation amounts computed by the engine rotational speed variation amount computing unit in the immediately preceding cycle and that of a two preceding cycle, respectively, with a second set value, so that misfiring can be accurately detected by preventing erroneous misfiring detection.

System for detecting misfire in a multi-cylinder internal combustion

A rotational speed control apparatus for internal combustion engines is constructed so that, when drive control of an idling speed control valve is performed based on a reference control quantity of the idling speed control valve, a highland learning value or a lowland learning value is stored for the idling speed control and a feedback correction quantity is computed for the idling speed control, in order to control a rotational speed of an internal combustion engine for a vehicle at a desired rotational speed, which is set in accordance with an engine temperature, at the time of an idling operation of the internal combustion engine. It is therefore possible to prevent an excessive drop in the rotational speed or a stall of the internal combustion engine, which occurs after the vehicle has descended a slope to a lowland, due to erroneous learning which is caused when the vehicle descends a slope from a highland to a lowland while travelling from a lowland to a highland and then to a lowland and so on.

Rotational speed control apparatus for internal combustion engines

A system for exactly detecting any unstable state in which disturbance is caused on the output value of a thermal air flowmeter for measuring intake air flow rate, thereby preventing or promptly suppressing the generation of undesirable states such as a variation in the air-fuel ratio or rough idling. The system has an upstream intake air temperature sensor for detecting the temperature of the intake air before entering an air cleaner element, the above-mentioned thermal air flowmeter, and a downstream air temperature sensor for detecting the temperature of the intake air after passing the thermal air flowmeter. The system determines that the air flow rate output of the thermal air flowmeter is unstable, when the difference between the air temperature values detected by the upstream and downstream intake air temperature sensors exceeds a predetermined value, and executes a control process which has been determined to cope with such an unstable state. Whether an unstable state exists or not may be determined from the amount of variation of the output value from the thermal air flowmeter.

Fuel control system for internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine control apparatus is provided which is capable of performing various controls based upon the air quantity immediately after a current heated element of a hot wire air flow meter is heated to a predetermined temperature. When a key switch is rotated to an 'ON' position, a large current flows through the air flow meter and the detected intake air quantity greatly exceeds the actual intake air quantity and therefore during the warm up period of the heater, the fuel injection amount is a constant corresponding to the coolant temperature until the engine speed reaches 500 rpm. Likewise during this warm up period, the smoothing processing of the fuel injection quantity is stopped. The fuel injection amount is switched from the constant value during starting to a variable quantity corresponding to air flow quantity when the output value of the air flow meter is less than a predetermined value and the engine speed is greater than 500 rpm or a predetermined time has elapsed since the key switch has been 'ON'.
