In a storage control apparatus, a first duplication control unit causes a logical volume in a disk array device to be copied to a secondary storage medium. A virtual library apparatus emulates a library apparatus by storing a logical volume on a cache disk. The library apparatus has a first storage medium and a second storage medium. The virtual library apparatus includes a disk volume, a determining unit, a monitor, and a copying unit. The disk volume forms the cache disk. The monitor monitors access load to the disk volume and selects the disk volume having the smallest access load on the basis of the monitoring result. In a storage system, a disk device performs recovery and transfers read data to a control device, and the control device judges the validity of the recovery to prevent a transfer of erroneous data. A control device read-accesses a disk device, and the disk device returns read data and a recovered read error response. A control device, at the time of an initial recovered read error, performs a retry of a similar command, and if an error does not occur for read commands including the retry read command, judges the data to be valid. Uncertain data (suspect data) upon occurrence of a recovered read error is restored through disk retry, and accurate read data can be transferred to the host.

According to the present invention, for reliably carrying out a request for access to processing data which is an object of processing in a data processing apparatus even if the processing data is not retained in a storage unit, the storage unit includes a first timer for detecting the fact that an elapsed time for the readout processing in the readout unit reaches a first predetermined time set in advance, and a first response unit for, when the processing in the readout unit continues after the detection of the first predetermined time by the first timer, transmitting a signal indicative of normal in-operation to the data processing apparatus. Moreover, the data processing apparatus includes an implementation unit for, when receiving the signal indicative of the normal in-operation from the first response unit, conducting the processing on the re-issue of the processing data access request.
