An engine starting system for starting an engine promptly during propulsion without reducing a drive force. When a condition to crank the engine is satisfied during propulsion in a neutral stage, torque is applied to an input rotary element to crank the engine by reducing a rotational speed of a control rotary element by increasing a torque capacity of a first engagement device to utilize an inertial force of the free rotary element as a reaction force.

Engine starting system for vehicle

A vehicle control system, in which that maintains a reaction force against the backward movement of a vehicle while preventing an overheating of a motor due to phase lock of the motor. When a thermal load on a specific phase of the motor exceeds a threshold value, a controller execute a phase shift control to reduce a thermal load on a specific phase of the motor by changing a rotational angle of the motor, while interrupting torque transmission between the motor and wheels and generating the torque to stop the vehicle by the actuator.

Control system for vehicle

A target air amount for achieving a requested torque is back-calculated from the requested torque using a virtual air-fuel ratio. The virtual air-fuel ratio is changed from a first air-fuel ratio to a second air-fuel ratio in response to a condition for switching an operation mode from operation in the first air-fuel ratio to operation in the second air-fuel ratio being satisfied. After the virtual air-fuel ratio is changed from the first air-fuel ratio to the second air-fuel ratio, an interval of time passes and the target air-fuel ratio is then switched from the first air-fuel ratio to a third air-fuel ratio that is an intermediate air-fuel ratio between the first air-fuel ratio and the second air-fuel ratio. The target air-fuel ratio is temporarily held at the third air-fuel ratio, and is thereafter switched from the third air-fuel ratio to the second air-fuel ratio.

Control device for internal combustion engine

An object of the present invention is to suppress the decrease in the insulation resistance between an electrode and a case resulting from condensed water in an electric heating catalyst (EHC). The EHC includes a heat generating element which generates heat by applying electricity and which heats a catalyst, a case which accommodates the heat generating element, and an insulating member which is provided between the heat generating element and the case, and which provides insulation from electricity. An electrode chamber, which is a space formed around an electrode connected to the heat generating element, is occluded by an occluding member, which has an airtightness higher than those of the heat generating element and the insulating member, in the case of the EHC.

Electric heating catalyst

An object of the invention is to control the penetration of condensed water into an insulation member or a heater element in an electric heating catalyst (EHC). The EHC according to the invention includes a heater element that generates heat by supply of electric current to heat a catalyst, a casing that houses the heater element, an insulation member provided between the heater element and the casing to provide electric insulation, and an electrode connected to the heater element through an electrode chamber, which is a space located between the inner wall surface of the casing and the outer circumferential surface of the heater element. The EHC is further provided with a bypass passage, one end of which is connected to a bottom part of the casing at a position upstream of the upstream end face of the insulation member. The bypass passage bypasses the insulation member.

An exhaust gas purifying device for an internal combustion engine, including: an electrically heated catalyst which has a catalyst carrier supporting a catalyst and a carrier retention unit which is provided on an outer periphery of the catalyst carrier, which retains the catalyst carrier, and which has an electrical insulation property; and a cooling unit which cools the carrier retention unit. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the temperature of the carrier retention unit from becoming high, and it becomes possible to appropriately ensure the insulation property of the electrically heated catalyst. Hence, it becomes possible to expand a condition range in which the current can be applied to the electrically heated catalyst.

Exhaust gas purifying device for internal combustion engine

The present invention is intended to suppress a decrease in insulation resistance between electrodes and a case in an electric heating catalyst (EHC). An EHC () according to the present invention is provided with a heat generation element () that is energized to generate heat thereby to heat a catalyst, a case () that receives the heat generation element therein, an insulating member () that is arranged between the heat generation element () and the case () for insulating electricity, electrodes () that are connected to the heat generation element () through an electrode chamber () which is a space located between an inner wall surface of the case () and an outer peripheral surface of the heat generation element (), and a ventilation passage () that ventilates the electrode chamber.

The flow of electricity to the case () of an electrically heated catalyst () is inhibited. The heating element (), the case (), and the electrically insulating inner pipe () provided between the heating element () and the case () and inner matsandthat are shorter in the direction of the flow of exhaust gases than inner pipe () that are provided in a compressed condition between heating element () and inner pipe (), and outer matsandthat are shorter in the direction of the flow of exhaust gases than inner pipe () that are provided in a compressed condition between inner pipe () and case () are provided and the load per unit area acting upon inner pipe () at the contact surface between inner pipe () and outer matsandis larger than the load born per unit area of acting upon the heating element () at the contact surface between the inner matsandand heating element ().

Electrically heated catalyst

The present invention has for its subject to avoid a situation that condensed water stays around electrode terminals, in an electric heating type exhaust gas purification apparatus which is arranged in an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine. In order to solve this subject, the present invention resides in an exhaust gas purification apparatus of an internal combustion engine which is provided with a catalyst carrier having electrodes, a case in which the catalyst carrier is accommodated, a mat member arranged between the catalyst carrier and the case, a space part extending from the catalyst carrier to the case while passing through the mat member, and electrode terminals accommodated in said space part for supplying electric power to the electrodes of the catalyst carrier, wherein exhaust gas and condensed water are kept from permeating into the space part through the mat member or the catalyst carrier, by the provision of a pressure supply unit which supplies a positive pressure to the space part.

Exhaust gas purification apparatus of an internal combustion engine

The exhaust gas purifying device of an internal combustion engine includes: an electrically heated catalyst which is provided on an exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine, which purifies the exhaust gas drawn to the exhaust passage, and is warmed by electrification; and an electrification characteristic setting unit which set an electrification characteristic indicating a characteristic of an electrification resistance value in the electrically heated catalyst, in accordance with an electrification condition at a time of starting the electrification of the electrically heated catalyst. Thus, various determinations and controls relating to the electrically heated catalyst and using the electrification characteristic can be accurately performed.

An electrically-heated catalytic converter comprises a catalyst support which produces heat when electric current is applied, a holding mat made of an electrical insulating material, the holding mat being provided so as to cover an outer circumference of the catalyst support, and a case which houses the catalyst support and holds the catalyst support via the holding mat. The catalytic converter treats gas flowing in the case by a catalyst supported on the catalyst support. The holding mat has a water-absorbing property. An insulation layer made of an electrical insulating material is provided between the case and the holding mat.

Electrically-heated catalytic converter

Whether or not an electrically heated catalyst is normal is detected by accurately detecting whether the temperature of the electrically heated catalyst has gone up. To this end, provision is made for an air fuel ratio control device that adjusts an air fuel ratio of an exhaust gas flowing into the electrically heated catalyst to a rich air fuel ratio, at the time of starting of an internal combustion engine, a downstream side detection device that is arranged at the downstream side of the electrically heated catalyst and detects a concentration of oxygen in the exhaust gas, and a determination device that determines whether the electrically heated catalyst is electrically energized, based on the time at which the oxygen concentration detected by the downstream side detection device changes to a value indicating a rich air fuel ratio at the time when the air fuel ratio of the exhaust gas is adjusted by the air fuel ratio control device to the rich air fuel ratio, after starting of the internal combustion engine.

Failure detection apparatus for an electrically heated catalyst

A vehicle control device applied to a vehicle including an internal combustion engine and an electrically heated catalyst which is warmed by applying a current, and includes a catalyst carrier supporting a catalyst and a carrier retention unit that retains the catalyst carrier and has an electrical insulation property. The control unit performs a control of suppressing a supply of an unburned gas from the internal combustion engine to the electrically heated catalyst so that the carrier retention unit is maintained at a lower temperature than the catalyst, when a condition for performing a fuel cut of the internal combustion engine during a deceleration is satisfied. Therefore, it is possible to suppress a rapid cooling of the catalyst, and it becomes possible to maintain a temperature of the carrier retention unit at a lower temperature than a temperature of the catalyst.

Vehicle control device

A vehicle control device applied to a vehicle including an internal combustion engine and an electrically heated catalyst which is warmed by applying a current, and includes a catalyst carrier supporting a catalyst and a carrier retention unit that retains the catalyst carrier and has an electrical insulation property. The vehicle control device includes an insulation resistance determination unit which determines whether or not an insulation resistance of the carrier retention unit decreases to a value equal to or lower than a predetermined value, and an applying current prohibition unit which prohibits applying the current to the electrically heated catalyst when the insulation resistance determination unit determines that the insulation resistance decreases to the value equal to or lower than the predetermined value. Therefore, it is possible to appropriately control of applying the current to the electrically heated catalyst based on the insulation property of the carrier retention unit, and hence it becomes possible to appropriately prevent an electrical leak of the electrically heated catalyst.

Electricity is suppressed from flowing to a case () of an electric heating type catalyst (). The electric heating type catalyst () is provided with a heat generation element () to be electrically energized to generate heat, the case () in which the heat generation element () is received, and a mat () inserted between the heat generation element () and the case () for insulating electricity, wherein the case () is formed into double pipes () at an upstream side and downstream side of the heat generation element (), respectively, and an inner pipe () of each of the double pipes () is formed such that it is in contact at an upstream side or downstream side one end () thereof with an outer pipe () of each double pipe (), with a gap being formed between the inner pipe () and the outer pipe () of each double pipe () at an upstream side or downstream side other end () of the inner pipe (), and an insulating layer () for insulating electricity is provided on a surface of the case () from the mat () to the other end () including a range surrounded by the outer pipe () and the inner pipe () of each double pipe ().
