A projection type video display apparatus is configured to include a projection optical system, an image processor, and a controller. The controller is configured to control the image processor to perform a blending process for partially changing the brightness of projection videos. The controller is configured to perform control to set a mode of the projection type video display apparatus to a blending adjustment mode in which a user adjusts the blending process performed by the image processor. In the blending adjustment mode, the controller is configured to perform control to generate a menu image of the blending adjustment menu and display the menu image in the projection video. In the blending adjustment mode, the controller automatically changes a display position of the blending adjustment menu according to a position of a blending adjustment region that is a region to be adjusted by the blending process.

Projection type video display device

A video display device includes performs a first Retinex process on an inputted video and a second Retinex process, which is different from the first Retinex process, on the inputted video. A video composing unit is configured to compose a video processed by the first Retinex processing unit and a video processed by the second Retinex processing unit in accordance with a feature of the inputted video, which is then displayed. In a process of composing the video processed by the first and second Retinex processing units, the video composing unit is configured to perform a process of converting a luminance level for each pixel so that more output luminance levels are assigned to a luminance band having a large frequency distribution to improve visibility of the video. A gain of the luminance level converting process is varied in accordance with an average pixel value level of the inputted video.

Video display device and projector

A technique capable of realizing more suitable image output and the like for an own apparatus is provided with respect to communication among apparatuses in a system including a video display apparatus. A video display apparatus provided with an apparatus-apparatus communication interface (for example, an HDMI) holds own apparatus information. In a case where a video output apparatus is connected to a video input unit of the video display apparatus via a first apparatus-apparatus communication interface and a video output unit of the video display apparatus is connected to an external video display apparatus via a second apparatus-apparatus communication interface, external apparatus information is obtained from the external video display apparatus via the second apparatus-apparatus communication interface, and apparatus information (EDID) is provided to the video output apparatus via the first apparatus-apparatus communication interface.

Video display apparatus-apparatus communication

A projection video display apparatus includes an input unit to input a video signal; a display to display the inputted video signal; a plurality of light sources to generate light; an illumination optical system to guide the generated light to the display; a projection optical system to project light via the display; and a controller to control the light sources, a lighting ratio and a current value per time for each light source. The controller has a black display control mode, for each light source, which makes a relative rate of a lighting ratio for a light source with a specific color smaller than the other light sources, and reduces the current value of the other light sources to be less than a current value of the light source with the specific color when compared with a case where the input video signal is a white signal.
