A blood-treating system in which apparatus for the purification of blood by purifying the blood plasma. The system includes as principal elements, an apparatus for separating blood plasma by way of a membrane, an apparatus for purifying blood plasma and an apparatus for mixing blood with blood plasma to be placed between a blood-introducing portion and a purified blood-withdrawing portion of the system. This system can remove useless substances from blood with a high efficiency without damaging and reducing blood cell components or any fear of mixing of the fine powder in the purifying agent.

Blood treating system

A blood-treating system in which apparatus for the purification of blood by purifying blood plasma, is provided. The system includes as principal elements, an apparatus for separating blood plasma by way of a membrane, an apparatus for purifying blood plasma and an apparatus for mixing blood with blood plasma to be placed between a blood-introducing portion and a purified blood-withdrawing portion of the system. This system can remove useless substances from blood with a high efficiency without damaging and reducing blood cell components or any fear of mixing of the fine powder in the purifying agent.

Aquatic animals can be kept in a living condition over a long period of time, without feeding them, by placing the aquatic animals, at a large density of more than 200 kg/m.sup.3 in environmental water; maintaining the temperature of the environmental water in a lowest possible range in which it is possible for the aquatic animals to exist; controlling the concentrations of ammonia compounds, water-soluble organic compounds and carbonic acid radical in the environmental water so that their levels do not exceed 20 ppm, 150 ppm and 1,000 ppm, respectively; and regulating the concentration of molecular oxygen dissolved in the environmental water so that it is 3 ppm or more.

Method for keeping aquatic animals alive over long periods of time

A resin concrete composition comprising an allyl ether-modified unsaturated polyester, at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer and an aggregate, 20% or more of the total dicarboxylic acid units in said allyl ether-modified unsaturated polyester being unsaturated dicarboxylic acid units, the ratio of the number of allyl groups/the number of molecules of unsaturated dicarboxylic acid in said allyl ether-modified unsaturated polyester being 1/10 to 4/1, and said unsaturated polyester having a number average molecular weight of 800-7000. Said composition is suitable for use as thick molded articles and excellent in low temperature curability and adhesion between aggregate and resin. The cured composition is resistant to crack formation and excellent in mechanical properties.

An apparatus for treating ascites which is safe and superior in performance and does not cause hemolysis, by removing harmful bacteria or cancer cells contained in ascites, by filtration, concentrating useful proteins, etc. contained therein and returning the resulting concentrate to living body is provided. Said apparatus comprises an ascites-transporting means, a hemolysis-preventive means connected to said ascites-transporting means, a filter for removing bacteria and cancer cells, containing at least one membrane for filtering the ascites which has passed said hemolysis-preventive means, and a concentrating vessel containing at least one membrane for concentrating the ascites thus filtered.

Apparatus for treating ascites

A dialysis unit and a dialysis apparatus employing the dialysis unit which can perform dialysis at a very high efficiency. The unit comprises a vast plurality of semi-permeable hollow fibers substantially equal in length, which fibers are gathered to form a bundle and bonded in liquid-tight connection at both ends portions thereof. This bundle of hollow fibers is loosely encased in a casing having a plurality of openings substantially uniformly distributed all over the casing. The dialysis unit is put in a dialyzate bath having therein a means for making a forced current of the dialyzate. The dialyzate flows into the casing through the openings and acts upon the bundle of hollow fibers from all directions. Accordingly, the dialyzate can flow freely inside and outside the bundle, while maintaining good contact between the dialyzate and the surfaces of the fibers, even in the inner portion of the bundle. Further, as the bundle is protected by the casing, the fibers will hardly break or hardly slip out of the bundle, even though a forced current of the dialyzate is applied thereto. Therefore, the dialysis can be carried out in a short time with high security.

Dialysis unit and dialysis apparatus employing the dialysis unit

A two step type pressurized injector comprising as main parts, a medicine chamber for holding an injecting liquid, a piston for pressurizing the injecting liquid, a nozzle hole for ejecting the injecting liquid, a power means for displacing said piston and a regulating means for regulating the displacement of said piston is provided. This injector gives less irritation i.e. pain to the skin of a person who is receiving the injection and less external injury to the skin. The injection is carried out under a pressure of 120 Kg/cm.sup.2 or higher to effect rapid perforation to a skin and then under a pressure of 100 Kg/cm.sup.2 or lower after the perforation.

Biphenyl or nucleus-substituted biphenyl can be prepared from benzene or nucleus-substituted benzene and oxygen or oxygen-containing gas in one step according to an equation ##SPC1## Wherein X is H, lower alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms Cl, NO.sub.2, or lower alkoxy having 1 - 3 carbon atoms and Y is H or CH.sub.3, with excellent yield by heating the reactants in the presence, as a catalyst, of palladium or a palladium compound and sulfuric acid or sulfuric acid and a lower saturated fatty acid added to the reaction system and further in the presence or in the absence of an alkali metal salt.

Method for producing biphenyls

TERT-Butylstyrene is prepared by a one-step reaction of tert-butylbenzene, ethylene and oxygen in the presence of a catalyst prepared by treating metallic palladium or fatty acid salts thereof with pyridine. The yield is increased by using together therewith a promoter prepared by treating one or more metals or oxides or fatty acid salts thereof, the metals being selected from the group consisting of copper, nickel, manganese, uranium and thallium. The reaction is carried out at a temperature between 50.degree. to 300.degree.C under a pressure of up to 100 kg/cm.sup.2.
