Provided is a molybdenum sulfide that is ribbon-shaped and particularly suitable for a hydrogen generation catalyst. Disclosed are a ribbon-shaped molybdenum sulfide, in which 50 particles as measured by observation with a scanning electron microscope (SEM) have a shape of, on average, 500 to 10000 nm in length, 10 to 1000 nm in width, and 3 to 200 nm in thickness; a method for producing the ribbon-shaped molybdenum sulfide, including: (1) heating a molybdenum oxide at a temperature of 200 to 1000&#xb0; C. in the presence of a sulfur source; or (2) heating a molybdenum oxide at a temperature of 100 to 800&#xb0; C. in the absence of a sulfur source, and then heating the molybdenum oxide at a temperature of 200 to 1000&#xb0; C. in the presence of a sulfur source; and a hydrogen generation catalyst including the ribbon-shaped molybdenum sulfide.

The present invention provides a cell culture substrate including a polymer having a lower critical solution temperature, the substrate including one or more inorganic materials selected from a water-swellable clay mineral and silica and further including an adhesive matrix in the substrate, in which the adhesive matrix is an extracellular matrix and/or an adhesive synthetic matrix. Furthermore, the invention is to provide a cell culture substrate in which the extracellular matrix is at least one selected from laminin, fibronectin, vitronectin, cadherin, and fragments thereof, and/or the adhesive synthetic matrix is poly[2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl dimethyl-(3-sulfopropyl) ammonium hydroxide] or an oligopeptide-supporting polymer.

A secondary battery comprising a rechargeable positive electrode, a rechargeable lithium-containing negative electrode, a separator allowing the positive electrode and negative electrode to be separated from each other, and organic electrolyte solution for connecting the positive electrode and negative electrode. The negative electrode includes a complex having a carbon molded article made of carbon fiber or carbon powder having an interfacial distance (d.sub.002) of 3.38 to 3.56 .ANG. as measured by X-ray diffraction analysis using silicon as standard material, wherein lithium have been absorbed into the carbon molded article beforehand. The above value of interfacial distance corresponds to 3.36 to 3.48 .ANG. as measured by X-ray diffraction analysis using no standard material.

Secondary battery

A process for production of high purity quarternary ammonium hydroxides, comprising electrolyzing quarternary ammonium hydrogencarbonates represented by the general formula: ##STR1## (wherein the symbols are as defined in the appended claims) in an electrolytic cell comprising an anode compartment and a cathode compartment defined by a cation exchange membrane. In accordance with this process, high purity quarternary ammonium hydroxides can be produced with high electrolytic efficiency and further without causing corrosion of equipment. Since the quarternary ammonium hydroxides produced by the present invention are of high purity, they can be effectively used as, for example, cleaners, etchants or developers for wafers in the production of IC and LSI in the field of electronics and semiconductors.
