A thermal transfer sheet including a substrate film, a recording agent layer formed on one surface of the substrate film, and a back surface layer formed on the other surface of the substrate film, the back surface layer containing at least one lubricant having a heat decomposition temperature of 200.degree. C. or above including a thermal transfer sheet comprising a substrate sheet, a thermally transferable colorant layer formed on one surface of the substrate sheet and a back surface layer formed on the other surface of the substrate sheet, said back surface layer containing a phosphoric ester surfactant, an alkaline substance and a binder. The present invention relates to an image-receiving sheet used in combination with a heat transfer sheet having a dye layer containing a dye which is melted or sublimated by heating and passed onto said image-receiving sheet, characterized in that a sheet-like substrate (11) includes on its surface a dye-receiving layer (12) for receiving a dye coming from said heat transfer sheet, said dye-receiving layer (12) comprising a copolymer obtained by the copolymerization of (i) vinyl chloride, (ii) an acrylic acid type monomer and (iii) a linear polymer having a vinyl group at an end. The present sheet of such a structure as mentioned above is improved in terms of dyeability and weather-resistance-after-printing, and excels particularly in the storability of printed images.

Image-receiving sheet

An image-receiving sheet for thermal transfer printing comprising a substrate, an intermediate layer and an image-receiving layer, said intermediate layer and said image-receiving layer being disposed in this order on said substrate, characterized in that said intermediate layer comprises a layer containing (a) fine particles of one or more kinds of resins selected from the group consisting of thermosetting resins and other resins having a softening point of higher than 150.degree. C. and (b) fine particles of a polyolefin resin as the main constituents and the amount of said fine particles (a) contained in the intermediate layer is in the range of from 5 to 90% by weight. The image-receiving sheet excells in the whiteness and opacity and exhibits an excellent recording sensitivity. The image-receiving sheet provides high quality images accompanied with no missing dot when used in a thermal transfer printing system wherein a thermally sublimable dye is utilized.

An electrothermal transfer sheet whose resistor layer is free from heat shrinkage and is excellent in flexibility and adhesion to a substrate sheet can be produced with high productivity. The transfer sheet includes a substrate sheet, a heat-transferable dye layer formed on one surface of the substrate sheet, and a resistor layer capable of generating heat when an electric current is applied thereto from an electrode head, formed on the other surface of the substrate sheet. The resistor layer includes (a) a binder resin, (b) an electrically conductive filler and (c) a crosslinking agent which includes a mixture of a thermosetting crosslinking agent and an ionizing-radiation-curable crosslinking agent.

Electrothermal transfer sheet

An electrothermal transfer sheet including (i) a resistor sheet, and (ii) a dye layer formed on one surface of the resistor layer, comprising a heat-transferable dye and a binder, the resistor layer being prepared by subjecting a film which includes (a) an electroconductive material, and (b) a resin composition containing a polymer and a monomer to a crosslinking reaction, the amount of the monomer being from 10 to 150 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the polymer, the crosslinking reaction being caused by applying ionizing radiation to the film; and an electrothermal transfer sheet including (i) a substrate sheet, (ii) a dye layer formed on one surface of the substrate sheet, including a heat-transferable dye and a binder, and (iii) a resistor layer formed on the other surface of the substrate sheet, the resistor layer being prepared by subjecting a film which includes (a) an electroconductive material, and (b) a resin composition containing a polymer and a monomer to a crosslinking reaction, the amount of the monomer being from 10 to 150 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the polymer, the crosslinking reaction being caused by applying ionizing radiation to the film.

A heat transfer sheet for an electrothermal transfer system including a dye layer containing a heat migratable dye on one surface of a substrate sheet and a resistance layer which generates heat by electrical current flow on the other surface of the substrate sheet. The heat transfer sheet is characterized in that a slip property imparting agent for lowering the frictional resistance between the resistance layer and electrode head during transfer is contained in the resistance layer.

An image-receiving sheet for thermal transfer printing comprising on a substrate an intermediate layer made primarily of a resin insoluble in organic solvents, and an image-receiving layer made primarily of a resin soluble in organic solvents and formed on the intermediate layer. This type of sheet is significantly improved in smoothness and blocking properties, enabling one to obtain print images of a very high quality, by thermal transfer printing, which are substantially free from the known problem relating to a missing transfer portion and which are high in the optical density for images as printed.
