A biometric authentication device includes an image capturing unit that captures images of a living body, a light source for capturing images of the living body, an optical filter that selectively passes and blocks light according to wavelength, a spectroscopic processing unit that separates multiple wavelengths captured simultaneously, respectively, and a calculation unit that calculates the shape and posture of a predetermined part of the living body in the captured images, a background removal unit that removes the background from the image of the living body using the spectral images of the living body and the spectral image of the unwanted ambient light, and an authentication unit that performs biometric authentication using the image of the predetermined part.

To provide an imaging device capable of reducing discomfort caused by visible light. A light source can emit the visible light and invisible light as irradiation light. An imaging unit captures an image of an irradiation region irradiated with the irradiation light to acquire an image. A processor causes the imaging unit to acquire a detection image in a first irradiation mode in which the invisible light is emitted from the light source, and determines whether a biometric object is presented in the irradiation region based on the detection image. A biometric authentication device including a housing, a light source unit that is installed on an upper surface of the housing and includes a light source, and an opening that is provided in the upper surface of the housing and located below the light source, and an imaging unit that is disposed inside the housing is disclosed. Blood vessel imaging apparatus and personal authentication system

An identification apparatus keeps the conditions for imaging uniform among successive identifications, and requires a user to perform only a series of simple maneuvers. The apparatus comprises a guide member, a light source, and an imaging unit. The guide member includes a pattern or structure for a user to position his/her finger thereon or to approach his/her specific finger region thereto. A contact member is located in the guide member where a fingertip is positioned. An optical opening is formed at a position coincident with where a finger to be imaged should be placed. The light source radiates near-infrared light through the portion of the finger to be imaged. The imaging means acquires an image of the finger, and the apparatus compares the image to previously registered images. The apparatus may also include dual light sources power saving functionality, and means for limiting the interference of external light sources.

It is provided an authentication system comprising: an input device; an image pickup device for picking up an image of the living body; an image processing unit for processing the image picked up by the image pickup device; a storage device for storing a plurality of pieces of first feature data and a plurality of pieces of second feature data; and a matching processing unit for checking input data, which indicates features of a living body picked up by the image pickup device, against each of the plurality of pieces of first feature data and each of the plurality of pieces of second feature data. Each of the plurality of pieces of second feature data is data that is smaller in size than each of the plurality of pieces of first feature data and that includes at least a part of the features of the living body.

Authentication system using biometric information and authentication device

A primary object of the present invention is to extract a difference in shading of a blood vessel image in a picked up image as information to be used for authentication, and to acquire a larger number of pieces of biometric information from one image. An individual authentication device to be used to authenticate an individual using feature information of a vascular pattern acquired from a living body includes an imaging unit that images a region of the living body serving as an object of authentication, and an arithmetic unit that acquires the picked up image as an authentication image. The arithmetic unit extracts a vascular pattern from the authentication image, and acquires a degree of shading of the vascular pattern as the feature information.
