An optical element-including opto-electric hybrid board includes an opto-electric hybrid board including an optical waveguide and an electric circuit board in order toward one side in a thickness direction, an optical element mounted on the electric circuit board at one side in the thickness direction of the opto-electric hybrid board, and a bonding member interposed between the optical element and the electric circuit board so as to bond the optical element to the electric circuit board. A thermal expansion coefficient of the bonding member is 80 ppm or less.

An opto-electric hybrid board connector includes an opto-electric hybrid board extending along a transmission direction of light in an optical waveguide, and a connector to which an attached region of the opto-electric hybrid board is attached. The attached region has a board front end surface for inputting and outputting light to and from the optical waveguide. The connector has a connector front end surface disposed to be flush with the board front end surface. The surface roughness SRa1 of the board front end surface is 0.2 &#x3bc;m or more and 3 &#x3bc;m or less. A difference D between the surface roughness SRa1 of the board front end surface and the surface roughness SRa2 of the connector front end surface is 1 &#x3bc;m or less.

Optical waveguide member connector and producing method thereof

An optical element device includes an opto-electric hybrid board sequentially including an optical waveguide having a mirror, and an electric circuit board having a terminal in a thickness direction, and an optical element optically connected to the mirror and electrically connected to the terminal. The opto-electric hybrid board includes a mounting region including the mirror and the terminal when projected in the thickness direction and mounted with the optical element. Furthermore, the opto-electric hybrid board includes an alignment mark for aligning the optical element with respect to the mirror. The alignment mark is made of a material for forming the optical waveguide, and disposed at both outer sides of the mounting region in a width direction.

An opto-electric hybrid board connector includes an opto-electric hybrid board, a connector, and an adhesive member. The board has a bottom surface, a first side surface, and a second side surface. The connector has an inner bottom surface, a first inner side surface, and a second inner side surface. The adhesive member includes a first adhesive member having contact with the inner bottom surface, first inner side surface, and first side surface facing a first gap, and a second adhesive member filled in the first gap and having contact with the inner bottom surface, second inner side surface, and second side surface facing a second gap. A ratio (L1/L0) of a width L1 of the first gap to a width L0 of the inner bottom surface, and a ratio (L2/L0) of a width L2 of the second gap to the width L0 of the inner bottom surface are 0.01 or more.

Optical waveguide member connector and method for producing the same

An optical connector member is provided, which includes an optical waveguide retaining portion provided on one of opposite sides of an optical coupling portion and having a cavity for retaining an end portion of an optical waveguide, and an optical fiber retaining portion provided on the other side and having a through-hole for retaining an end portion of an optical fiber. A distal end face of the end portion of the optical waveguide retained in the cavity of the optical waveguide retaining portion and a distal end face of the end portion of the optical fiber retained in the through-hole of the optical fiber retaining portion are positioned in opposed relation to each other in the optical coupling portion with an optical axis of the optical waveguide in alignment with an optical axis of the optical fiber.

An optical waveguide includes a first core and a second core disposed adjacent to each other at spaced intervals and a dummy core positioned between the first core and the second core. The first core and the second core transmit light in a transmission direction perpendicular to an adjacent direction. The dummy core includes a facing surface facing the first core and an opposing surface positioned at the opposite side to the first core with respect to the facing surface, and the opposing surface has an inclined surface inclining so as to go away from the first core toward the downstream side in the transmission direction.

An optical waveguide includes a core extending in a transmission direction of light, a clad covering the core along the transmission direction, and a mixing layer containing a material for the core and a material for the clad on the interface between the core and the clad, and the mixing layer includes a plurality of regions each having a different thickness in the transmission direction.

An opto-electric hybrid board includes an optical waveguide and an electric circuit board. The opto-electric hybrid board has an electrode at one end portion in a first direction perpendicular to the thickness direction, and optically and electrically connects an optical element emitting light from a space between the one end portion and the other end portion. The electric circuit board includes a terminal portion electrically connected to the electrode and a support portion that supports the other end portion. The optical waveguide includes a light receiving portion for receiving light emitted from the optical element, which is positioned between the terminal portion and the support portion, when projected in the thickness direction, and a one-side surface in the thickness direction of the terminal portion is positioned at the other side in the thickness direction with respect to a one-side surface in the thickness direction of the support portion.

An optical waveguide member connector kit includes an optical waveguide member including an optical waveguide and a connector having an accommodation space that is capable of accommodating the optical waveguide member. When the optical waveguide member is accommodated in the accommodation space, the connector has an opening portion reaching the optical waveguide member from the outside of the connector and when the optical waveguide member is accommodated in the accommodation space, at least one of the optical waveguide member and the connector includes a groove communicating with the opening portion facing at least the other side of the optical waveguide member and the connector.

Opto-electric hybrid boards are disclosed including an electric circuit board; light-emitting and light-receiving elements which are mounted on a first surface of the electric circuit board; and an optical waveguide having a core for an optical path and formed in a stacked manner on a second surface of the electric circuit board. The core of the optical waveguide includes: end portions formed as light reflecting surfaces for reflecting light to allow the light to propagate between the core and the light-emitting and light-receiving elements; extensions extending from the end portion side of the core toward the light-emitting and light-receiving elements; and a main portion from which the extensions extend. The extensions of the core and the main portion of the core are different from each other in shape of cross-sections perpendicular to an axial direction thereof.

Opto-electric hybrid board

A connector member for an optical waveguide includes a housing provided with a space portion for holding an end portion of an optical waveguide. In the housing, protruding portions serving as a positioner are provided on left-hand and right-hand side wall portions defining the space portion. Notches in the optical waveguide are fitted on the protruding portions, whereby a front end surface of the end portion of the optical waveguide is positioned at a location a predetermined distance inward from a front end surface of the housing. This configuration achieves optical coupling without bringing the end surface of the optical waveguide into direct abutment with an end surface of a target optical connector.

Connector member for optical waveguide, optical connector kit using same, and optical interconnection obtained thereby

Provided are an optical waveguide capable of propagating light, and a position sensor and an optical circuit board including the same. The optical waveguide includes cores each partially formed in an S-shape. The S-shaped portion includes a first curved portion upstream as seen in the direction of light propagation, and a second curved portion downstream as seen in the direction of light propagation and curved in a direction opposite to the first curved portion. The first curved portion and the second curved portion are connected to each other via a straight portion having a length in the range of from 0 mm to 30 mm. One of the width of the exit of the first curved portion and the width of the entrance of the second curved portion is smaller than the width of a core portion upstream of the S-shaped portion.
