A method of selecting pneumatic devices that satisfy specified load, speed and strength conditions to construct a pneumatic system. Data concerning pneumatic actuators, solenoid-controlled selector valves, drive controllers, pipes, pipe joints and exhaust treatment devices is stored in a pneumatic actuator database, a solenoid-controlled selector valve database, a drive controller database, a pipe database, a pipe joint database and an exhaust treatment device database, respectively, for each item number, and conditions required for pneumatic devices constituting a system are calculated. Then, pneumatic devices conforming to the calculated conditions are selected from the respective databases. At the first step, a pneumatic actuator satisfying a load condition, a strength condition and a speed condition is selected from the pneumatic actuator database on the basis of a calculation according to a basic equation. At the second step, a solenoid-controlled selector valve and an exhaust treatment device, each of which satisfies a discriminating formula concerning the speed condition, are selected from the respective databases. At the third step, a drive controller, a pipe and a pipe joint, each of which satisfies a discriminating formula concerning the speed condition, are selected from the respective databases.

Method of selecting pneumatic devices

There is described a fluid pressure booster including a pair of cylinders connected to the opposite sides of a central partition wall of a casing with an inlet port, an outlet port and air exhaust ports, a pair of pistons reciprocable in the cylinders and defining a boosting chamber and a drive chamber in each cylinder, and a switch valve adapted to supply a line air pressure alternately to the drive chambers of the two cylinders, thereby reciprocating the pistons to intensify the fluid pressure in the boosting chambers. The switch valve of the booster is provided with a spool stall preventive means which is arranged to suppress the pressing force on the valve body of the switch valve with the fluid pressure or biasing action of a spring until the valve body reaches the neutral position thereof and to encourage the pressing action on the valve body with a biasing force after reaching the neutral position to prevent stalls of the valve body at that position.

A cylinder driving apparatus, wherein a head chamber and a rod chamber of a cylinder for driving a load upwardly and downwardly are communicated with a pressure accumulation tank by way of a balance pipeway equipped with an electromagnetic proportional flow control valve and a recycling pipeway equipped with a pressure control valve mechanism, respectively, and the load is driven by feeding air at reduced pressure to the rod chamber or discharging it to the external atmosphere by way of the pressure control valve mechanism while applying air pressure into the head chamber of the cylinder against the load by way of the electromagnetic proportional flow control valve for adjusting the driving speed.

A cylinder driving system comprising balance cylinders communicated to an accumlator for supporting a load under balanced state, a drive cylinder of a small diameter connected by way of a switching control device to an air source for driving the load with reduced air consumption and a speed controller provided either to the balance cylinders or to the drive cylinder for switching the load driving speed between high and low speeds.

A poppet type change-over valve assembly suitable for switching a fluid flow direction and capable of dealing with a large fluid flow with a small valve displacement and small valve operating force. The valve assembly characteristically comprises an annular float valve which is loosely mounted around a main valve body and has parallel or concentric outer and inner sealing edges for engagement with conical valve seats which are formed on the main valve body and an inner wall surface of the valve casing. The annular float valve is adapted to be tightly held between the conical valve seats of the main valve body and the valve casing by cooperation of the main valve body and a fluid pressure prevailing in the valve chamber when the valve is switched to a desired change-over position thereby establishing a tight seal around the main valve body for connecting a fluid inlet port with a selected fluid output port of the valve.
