A benzoxazine derivative having the formula (I) and a salt thereof: ##STR1## wherein A, X, Z, R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are as described in the disclosure, and a herbicide containing the compound of the formula (I) as an effective ingredient.
