An obstacle determination system includes an avoidance behavior detection unit configured to detect an avoidance behavior that is a behavior of a vehicle avoiding an obstacle, and an obstacle determination unit configured to determine that the obstacle is present when a road on which the avoidance behavior occurs is not a road on which avoidance of an oncoming vehicle is needed.

An engine starter has a plunger electromagnetically actuated by holding and attracting coils to move a pinion toward a ring gear on the engine and also to move a first movable contact on the plunger towards first and second stationary contacts to be electrically connected together by the first movable contact to electrically energize a starter motor. A relay is provided and has normally open contacts electrically connected in series to a power source and the connection between the holding and attracting coils. The relay coil is connected in series to a starter switch and a temperature sensor. The temperature sensor is formed by a normally closed switch having a third stationary contact connected to the relay coil, and a bimetallic element carrying a second movable contact grounded through the bimetallic element. The temperature sensor is disposed to detect the temperature of one of the holding and attracting coils and arranged such that, when the temperature is raised to a predetermined level, the bimetallic element snaps to separate the second movable contact from the third stationary contact whereby the electrical supply to the holding and attracting coils is interrupted to interrupt the electrical supply to the starter motor. Thus, the starter will not burn up if the starter switch remains closed.

Engine starter

A brush holding device of an 'easy-to-assemble' type disposed between a yoke and an end frame of a motor. The device has a brush holder formed in one body from an electrically insulating material to include an annular-type field winding fixing frame, a brush holding stay having a plurality of brush chambers thereon, each of the brush chambers having at least an opening on the side of the end frame, integral connecting portions annularly connecting the spaced brush chambers therebetween, an insulating plate member having relatively rigid body portions to cover the openings of the brush chambers and relatively flexible portions connecting the body portions therebetween, and means for fixing the insulation to the brush holders by deforming the flexible portions of the insulator toward the brush holders. The aforementioned annular fixing frame has a plurality of flanges radially outwardly extending from the outer periphery thereof by which the annular frame is circumferentially axially aligned with the yoke. Consequently, the brush holding device is able to be rigidly held between the yoke and the end frame without using a bolt while establishing a good alignment of the device in the circumferential and the axial direction.
