A fiber-reinforced resin prepreg and a molded article obtained by molding a molding material including the fiber-reinforced resin prepreg are described. The fiber-reinforced resin prepreg contains a carbon fiber bundle and a matrix resin composition. The ipa value of the carbon fiber bundle measured by an electrochemical measurement method is 0.14 μA/cmor more. The impact strength of a film obtained by solidifying the matrix resin composition under particular molding conditions is 12.0 kJ/m or more.

A carbon fiber manufacturing method with which high quality carbon fibers can be obtained. The carbon fiber manufacturing method includes introducing carbon fiber precursor fiber bundles that have been spread in sheet form into a flameproofing furnace, flameproofing the carbon fiber precursor fiber bundles introduced into the flameproofing furnace in a temperature range of 200&#xb0; C. to 300&#xb0; C., introducing the flameproofed fiber bundles obtained from the flameproofing treatment into a carbonization furnace, and carbonizing the flameproofed fiber bundles introduced into the carbonization furnace in a temperature range of 300&#xb0; C. to 2500&#xb0; C. The flameproofing furnace includes a heat-treatment chamber and a sealing chamber adjacent thereto and discharges air from the sealing chamber to outside of the flameproofing furnace. The space velocity (SV) (1/h) of hot air blown from the heat-treatment chamber into the sealing chamber satisfies relationship: 80&#x2264;SV&#x2264;400.

The present invention provides: a carbon fiber sizing agent that can obtain a carbon fiber bundle having a superior effect of improving mechanical properties when composited using a resin; an aqueous dispersion thereof; a carbon fiber bundle; a sheet-shaped article having a carbon fiber bundle; and a composite material. The carbon fiber sizing agent contains: a compound (A) that is an ester of an unsaturated monobasic acid and an epoxy compound having a plurality of epoxy groups in the molecule, and that has at least one epoxy group in the molecule; a urethane acrylate oligomer (B) that is bifunctional and that has a tensile elongation rate of the cured product of at least 40%; and a polyurethane resin (C) having a tensile elongation rate of a dried coating film of 350-900% inclusive. The amounts of A-C contained satisfy the conditions described in the description. The aqueous dispersion disperses the sizing agent. The carbon fiber bundle contains 0.6-3.0 mass % inclusive of the sizing agent. The sheet-shaped article and a pultruded composite material contain the carbon fiber bundle. The composite material contains the sheet-shaped article.

The oil agent composition for acrylic precursor fibers for carbon fibers of the present invention contains 1 to 10 wt % of a modified polydimethylsiloxane including a unit having a specific alkyl chain, at least one unit selected from the group consisting of a unit having a specific polyethylene oxide chain, a unit having a specific polyglycerin chain, and a unit having a specific polyether chain, and optionally a unit having a specific polydimethylsiloxyalkyl chain.

Oil agent composition for acrylic precursor fibers for carbon fibers, acrylic precursor fiber bundle for carbon fibers, and method for producing the same

A method to prepare a carbon fiber bundle which can develop satisfactory interfacial adhesion to polyolefin-based resins, especially polypropylene resins, is provided. The carbon fiber bundle comprises a plurality of single fibers sized with a sizing agent comprising: a polymer having a main chain formed of carbon-carbon bonds, containing an acid group in at least part of side chains or at least a part of main chain ends, and having an acid value of 23 to 120 mg KOH/g as measured in accordance with ASTM D1386; or a polymer having a main chain formed of carbon-carbon bonds and containing at least either of an epoxy group and an ester group in at least a part of side chains or at least a part of main chain ends.

The present invention relates to a carbon fiber sizing agent comprised of water-soluble thermoplastic resin and amphoteric surfactant within a weight ratio range of 6/1 to 1/3, a carbon fiber sizing method comprising treating carbon fibers using a sizing liquid containing the aforementioned sizing agent, sized carbon fibers comprising adhering the aforementioned sizing agent to their surfaces, and a fabric that uses said carbon fibers. The carbon fiber sizing agent of the present invention has satisfactory solubility in water over a wide pH range, and is able to impart to carbon fibers adequate convergence for forming stable chopped carbon fibers, superior workability and satisfactory uniform tow dispersibility in water over a wide pH range. Since a fabric of the present invention demonstrates affinity to water over a wide pH range, it is suitable for applications such as immersing said fabric in an aqueous matrix in order to impregnate the fabric with that matrix.
