A silver halide light-sensitive color photographic materials is disclosed. The material comprises a compound which releases, upon reaction with an oxidation product of a color developing agent, a 2-mercapto-1,3,4-oxadiazole derivative represented by formula I: ##STR1## wherein L.sub.1 represents a linkage or a divalent linking group; R.sup.1 represents an alkyl group, an aryl group or a heterocyclic group; R.sup.2 represents a hydrogen atom or a substituent; n represents an integer of one, two or three; and m represents an integer of zero, one or two, provided that sum of m and n is three. The color photographic material produces a dye image having enhanced image-sharpness, showing large inter-image effect with reduced reduction of gamma in the layer, to which the coupler is incorporated and having improved stability with the lapse of time during storage.

A data storage apparatus and method that allows the signal processing circuit to be in integrated form, so that the magnetic storage system may be reduced in size with increased performance is described. The apparatus includes a reproducing head that reproduces information stored on a recording medium, a preamplifier that amplifies the output of the reproducing head, and a low-pass filter. An A/D converter converts the output for the low-pass filter to a digital signal and has a reference voltage. A discriminator is coupled to an output of the A/D converter and discriminates the digital signal. A circuit, coupled to the discriminator, provides negative feedback control of the reference voltage of the A/D converter as a function of the digital signal before the discrimination by the discriminator and the digital signal that has been discriminated by the discriminator.

A nonlinear compensation A/D converting method and a circuit for compensating asymmetry of a reproduction signal waveform, so as not to deteriorate the performance of a discriminator even if there is a nonlinearity such that the amplitudes of the signal differ in dependence on the polarities of the waveforms like a reproduction waveform of an MR head are provided. Scales 1+ and 1- of an A/D converter are set to values which differ in dependence on the positive and negative polarities of the input signal, so that a nonlinear compensation which is suitable for a high accurate and high speed operation can be realized. Even an MR head in which the asymmetry between the upper and lower waveforms of the reproduction waveform is large can be used. A yield of the head can be improved.

A reproduction signal processing apparatus includes a memory circuit storing a predetermined pattern for deciding equalizing characteristics of an automatic equalizer in response to variation of a reproduction signal, a pattern converting circuit for converting the predetermined pattern outputted from the memory circuit into an equalization target pattern serving as a target of the equalization and correction by the automatic equalizer, an equalization error calculating circuit for producing an equalization error from the equalization target pattern and the equalization signal outputted from the automatic equalizer, and the automatic equalizer executing a partial response waveform process of the reproduction signal on the basis of the equalization error, for correcting the predetermined equalizing characteristics of the automatic equalizer by tracing the fluctuation of the reproduction signal. A readout circuit in magnetic recording device is disclosed, in which a test data signal for detecting an error in the characteristics of an automatic equalizer is recorded in a predetermined position of each track of a magnetic recording medium. In readout mode, a test data signal for a selected track is read out first, and this signal is compared with a reference signal dependent on the system conditions to determine an error from the reference signal. The optimum equalization coefficient is determined to eliminate this error from the reference signal and set in the equalizer. The data is readout under the optimum equalization characteristics thus set.

A readout circuit in magnetic recording device is disclosed, in which a test data signal for detecting an error in the characteristics of an automatic equalizer is recorded in a predetermined position of each track of a magnetic recording medium. In readout mode, a test data signal for a selected track is read out first, and this signal is compared with a reference signal dependent on the system conditions to determine an error from the reference signal. The present invention relates to the structure of a magneto-resistive head for reducing the spike noises generated in the head and for increasing the signal to noise ratio when the information is reproduced. In order to achieve the object, an electric conductor layer is disposed at both sides or one side of a magneto-resistive element, and the conductor layer is isolated from the element and connected to a DC potential.

Disclosed is a magnetic transducer using a magnetoresistance effect, comprising a magnetoresistive film, a hard magnetic film for applying a transverse biasing magnetic field thereto, and a conductive film through which current for applying the transverse biasing magnetic field to the magnetoresistive film flows. The conductive film may be either in electrical contact with or in electrical insulation from the magnetoresistive film. In this magnetic transducer, even when the heights of the respective constituents have changed, the transverse biasing magnetic field to be applied does not change considerably, and an optimum bias field strength is readily attained.
