An action support apparatus displays a destination specification screen for specifying a destination, and receives from the user a specification of a general destination. If a general destination is specified, then the apparatus determines a detailed destination, referencing a knowledge DB. If there is a plurality of detailed destinations with respect to the general destination, then any one of them is set to the user's destination. Next, the apparatus sets the current location as the starting point, and generates a planned route from the starting point to the destination based on a map DB and an internal clock. Furthermore, the apparatus reads a filtering rule from a filtering DB, and extracts as recommended information facility information of facilities suited to the user from a facility information DB. Depending on the filtering rule, it is also acceptable to use user information in a user DB in the extraction of the recommended information. Subsequently, the apparatus associates the extracted recommended information with the planned route, and outputs them.

A window picture (robust window picture) is selected as a model window picture, which is unlikely to be influenced by the variations in an environment and selected irrespective of the variations in an environment of pictures assumed to be inputted in a recognition phase. Alternatively, a window picture (stable window picture) is selected as a model window picture, in which the changes in a feature value are small even though an environment is varied. For example, a tracking window picture group is obtained from a registered picture group in which an environment is continuously varied, by tracking window pictures of a basic registered picture. Then, a static extraction window picture is obtained by extracting window pictures as independent pictures from a series of pictures. Then, a window picture selected both in the tracking window picture group and in the static extraction window picture is set as a robust window picture, and picture matching is conducted using the robust window picture.

Picture matching processing according to environment variations

A multimedia information arranging apparatus that utilizes various feature values contained in multimedia information, carries out a flexible retrieval and classification and displays the information in an information set arrangement space is provided. An information set obtaining portionobtains information sets. An axis setting portionassigns the feature value of the media information to an information set arrangement space axis so as to set the information set arrangement space. Multimedia information arranging apparatus and arranging method

The variations in appearance of an object caused by the variations in a capturing environment are estimated to be modeled, and the object model thus obtained is previously registered in a database. Picture information of an object to be a recognition target is input, and the input picture information is matched with the previously registered object model. The similarity with respect to the registered object model is determined, and the type of the object to be a recognition target is output, which is determined to be most similar among the registered object models. Information of a plurality of pictures captured by changing the relative position and posture of an object is input, and the variations in appearance of an object caused by the possible variations in a capturing environment are estimated to be modeled based on the input information of a plurality of pictures.

Picture recognition apparatus and method

A plurality of thumbnails to be used as retrieval keys are indicated by a retrieving key indicating section. Respective feature vector of the retrieval keys are extracted by a feature vector extracting section. A retrieval feature vector selecting section selects, among elements of feature vector of each retrieval key, a prescribed number of elements in a distance average ascending order as retrieval feature vector. A retrieving section retrieves information stored in an information storing section by using the retrieval feature vector. An arrangement feature vector selecting section selects, as arrangement feature vector, among elements of feature vector of the retrieval key, the feature vector elements that have not been extracted as the elements of retrieval feature vector. Elements of feature vector selected in a dispersion descending order in the retrieval results are preferable. An arranging section classifies and arranges results of the retrieval by using the arrangement feature vector by the self-organization mapping or the like, and a display section displays a result of the arrangement.
