A basic pulse time setting section determines a basic pulse time for initial invalid stroke elimination by applying current values of oil temperature and throttle opening to the basic pulse time map. A subtraction time setting section determines a subtraction time by applying current values of oil temperature and clutch oil pressure to the subtraction time map. A pulse time determining section determines a predetermined initial invalid stroke elimination pulse time by subtracting the subtraction time from the basic pulse time. An initial invalid stroke elimination permission/inhibition determination section, at a starting timing of initial invalid stroke elimination, inhibits this-time initial invalid stroke elimination if the elapsed time from the execution timing of the preceding initial invalid stroke elimination is within the predetermined inhibition period.

Clutch control device

A gear position detecting device includes a rotation angle sensor for detecting a turn position of a shift drum and a position sensor for detecting that the shift drum is at a neutral position. The rotation angle sensor is a volume sensor that linearly increases or decreases an output voltage according to a turning motion of the shift drum. The neutral position is set in such a way as not to overlap a dead zone. It is determined according to an output signal of the rotation angle sensor and an output signal of the position sensor whether the shift drum is at a reverse gear position located between the neutral position and the dead zone or a fifth gear position turned by 360 degrees from the reverse gear position. Such detecting device detects a gear position with a high accuracy even if the number of gear positions are increased.

A driving force control device for saddled vehicle includes a transmission that transmits driving force of an engine to a driving wheel of a vehicle at predetermined reduction ratio; a clutch that connects/disconnects the driving force between the engine and the transmission; and a controller that controls the transmission and the clutch. The controller permits selection of a normal mode in which the reduction ratio of the transmission is varied according to a running condition and a slow mode permitting slow forward movement and slow backward movement by varying the reduction ratio of the transmission to a fixed reduction ratio according to predetermined operation, and the controller holds the clutch in a partial clutch engagement condition so as to prevent the vehicle from moving forward or backward when the slow mode is selected and no predetermined operation is performed.

Driving force control device for saddled vehicle

A basic clutch capacity calculating unit calculates a clutch capacity of the DCT applying an engine speed, a degree of throttle opening, and a front wheel vehicle speed to a map. The basic clutch capacity calculating unit further calculates the DCT basic clutch capacity by amending the basic clutch capacity based on an oil temperature and a water temperature. An NE converted value calculating unit calculates an NE converted value obtained by converting a vehicle speed into an engine speed with the front wheel vehicle speed and a DCT speed change stage as input parameters. A hunting detecting unit detects hunting by comparing the engine speed with the NE converted value when a throttle operation is detected. A DCT clutch capacity correcting unit makes decreasing correction of a DCT clutch capacity when hunting is detected for suppressing the hunting.

A determination unit in an ECU of a rough terrain vehicle determines a reverse running state in a case that an engine rotational speed of an engine decreases when a traveling drive force is generated in the rough terrain vehicle. Further, if the determination unit determines occurrence of the reverse running state, the ECU refers to a clutch hydraulic pressure map, and sets a target hydraulic pressure so as to decrease gradually over time.

Rough terrain vehicle

In a rough terrain vehicle, at a time of preparing to start movement, in a case that a left paddle switch and a right paddle switch are operated together with an accelerator pedal, an ECU disengages a clutch of an automatic transmission, and causes an output of an engine to increase. On the other hand, at a time of starting movement, in a case that the left paddle switch and the right paddle switch are returned to their initial positions, the ECU engages the clutch and transmits the output of the engine from the engine to vehicle wheels via the automatic transmission, to thereby rapidly start movement of the rough terrain vehicle.

A seat belt attachment determining unit of a rough terrain vehicle determines whether or not a seat belt is being worn by a vehicle occupant. In the case it is determined by the seat belt attachment determining unit that the vehicle occupant is wearing the seat belt, the ECU switches a transmission gear stage of an automatic transmission using a first speed change mode. On the other hand, in the case it is determined by the seat belt attachment determining unit that the vehicle occupant is not wearing the seat belt, the ECU switches the transmission gear stage using a second speed change mode.

A method of controlling the electric current of a linear solenoid valve by performing pulse width modulation on a coil current for energizing a linear solenoid of the linear solenoid valve to adjust the hydraulic pressure of a working oil in a hydraulic clutch for transmitting and interrupting the rotational drive power from a power source to a drive wheel of a vehicle. The method includes setting the period of the pulse width modulation to a shorter value as the degree to which the hydraulic clutch is engaged increases from a disengaged state thereof. Here, the period of the pulse width modulation may be set in accordance with the variation of a duty ratio depending on the hydraulic pressure corresponding to the degree to which the hydraulic clutch is engaged.

A braking force control apparatus for a saddle ride vehicle includes a transmission controller which reduces driving force of an engine by a predetermined speed reduction ratio and transmits the driving force to a drive wheel, a clutch device which connects&#x2014;disconnects the driving force between the engine and the transmission, a brake device which generates braking force on the drive wheel, and a sensor which detects a state of the transmission. The transmission switches between a neutral state and an in-gear state, and when the sensor detects that the transmission is switching from the neutral state to the in-gear state, the controller causes the brake device to generate braking force on the drive wheel, and then releases the braking force upon completion of the switching to the in-gear state.

Braking force control apparatus for saddle ride vehicle

A braking force control apparatus in a motorcycle, includes a controller which controls a transmission to reduces driving force of an engine by a predetermined speed reduction ratio and transmits the driving force to a drive wheel of a vehicle, a clutch between the engine and the transmission, and brake devices which generate braking force on the wheels. The vehicle is switchable between a normal and a slow speed driving modes. In the slow speed mode the controller detects an inclination pitching angle &#x3b8;, and causes the brake devices to generate braking force on at least one of the drive wheels when &#x3b8;&#x2267;a predetermined value, then starts switching the clutch to a connected state when a driving operation is input, and gradually releases the braking force once driving force starts to be transmitted to the drive wheel.

To allow a rider to sense torque in a low-speed traveling mode, a control device has a forward-and-reverse clutch oil pressure controller. In a low-speed traveling mode, the forward-and-reverse clutch oil pressure controller performs hunting control on driving torque, which is transmitted to a rear wheel from a crankshaft of an engine through a clutch device, a transmission, and a drive shaft, if vehicle speed stays within a second vehicle speed range for a predetermined time.

A saddle-type vehicle that allows common use of a handle switch with a vehicle having no advancing-backing function and can suppress increase in the number of switches and the lowering of the layout efficiency of the switches. A saddle-type vehicle has a reverse mode setting input part that sets a reverse mode in which backing driving of the saddle-type vehicle is permitted and a control system that disables shift operation of a transmission by a shift-down switch and a shift-up switch and causes the saddle-type vehicle to advance through operation of the shift-down switch and to back through operation of the shift-up switch when the reverse mode is set.

A transmission control system can include a main transmission. The transmission control system can also include a sub transmission that has two forward transmission gears mechanically shiftable in response to a shift operation. The transmission control system can further include a controller that shifts the transmission gears of the main transmission by activating a shift control motor, and control the clutches configured to enable and disable transmission of a rotational driving force of an engine. When one forward transmission gear of the sub transmission is shifted to the other forward transmission gear in response to the shift operation, the controller can relax engagement of the clutch if an engine speed exceeds a clutch release speed.

A compact transmission device that alleviates shift shock and avoids engine stall at the time of deceleration. A discharge resistance changing unit changes discharge resistance of a clutch oil pressure on a side where a clutch is disconnected due to swapping of clutches in two stages. During a shift period where the clutch on a connection side is changed over from a disconnection state to a connection state, an invalid filling zone where a friction force is not generated on a clutch plate is provided. A control unit controls the discharge resistance changing unit at a time of the shift change such that the clutch on a disconnection side is brought into a state where a friction force is not generated after finishing a half clutch zone when the clutch on a connection side is in a half clutch zone after the invalid filling zone is finished.
