Disclosed is a powder consisting of particles of a cured fluoro-silicone rubber having a specified average particle diameter and a specified rubber hardness. The fluorosilicone rubber has a siloxane composition consisting of three types of units expressed by the unit formulas of &lsqb;R,R,SiO,&rsqb;, &lsqb;R,SiO,&rsqb; and &lsqb;R,SiO,&rsqb;, in which R,is preferably a 3,3,3-trifluoropropyl group and R,is preferably a methyl group, in such a proportion that the molar ratio of R,:(R,&plus;R,) is in the range from 0.05 to 0.5. The powder is useful as an ingredient in a cosmetic or toiletry preparation to effect improved sustainability of the cosmetic finish and decreased unevenness of coloring on human skin.

A curable silicone composition having high compatibility with organic polymers, which comprises (a) 100 parts by weight of a hydroxyl group-containing organopolysiloxane represented by the following formula (I) and (b) 1-50 parts by weight of an isocyanate compound having at least two isocyanate groups per molecule, wherein the number of the hydroxyl groups per molecule in the component (a) plus the number of the isocyanate groups per molecule in the component (b) is at least 5: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a monovalent saturated hydrocarbon group; R.sup.2 is a phenyl-substituted alkyl group represented by C.sub.6 H.sub.5 --(CH.sub.2).sub.p --CH(R.sup.4)--CH.sub.2 --; R.sup.3 is a hydroxyl-substituted alkyl group represented by --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --O--(C.sub.2 H.sub.4 O).sub.q --H; two R groups are the same group or different groups selected from the groups represented by R.sup.1, R.sup.2 or R.sup.3 ; R.sup.4 is a hydrogen atom or the same group as R.sub.1 ; l is 0 or a positive number, m is a positive number and n is a positive number of no less than 2, provided that 0.10.ltoreq.m/(l+m+n).ltoreq.0.70 and 5.ltoreq.l+m+n.ltoreq.100; p is an integer of from 0 to 5; and q is an integer of from 1 to 3.

The synthesis and characterization of novel higher order, multi-arm star polymers comprising polyisobutylene arms connected to condensed cyclosiloxane cores are described. The synthesis has been achieved by hydrosilating olefin-capped (e.g., allyl- or isopropenyl-terminated) polyisobutylene with hydrogencyclosiloxanes carrying a plurality of Si--H groups and simultaneously and competitively converting SiH functions, in the presence of moisture, to Si--OH groups to rapidly self-condense or react with SiH groups to form coupled cyclosiloxane cores via core-core coupling. Thus, higher order stars having many more arms than first order stars can be formed.

Higher order star polymers having multiple polyisobutylene arms

The synthesis and characterization of novel multi-arm star polymers comprising polyisobutylene arms connected to a well-defined, siloxane core are described. The synthesis has been achieved by hydrosilating olefin-capped (e.g., allyl- or isopropenyl-terminated) polyisobutylene with siloxanes carrying a plurality of Si--H groups.

A silicone rubber composition is prepared by mixing 100 parts by weight of an alkenyl-containing organopolysiloxane having a degree of polymerization of at least 3,000 and 5 to 30 parts by weight of finely divided silica having a specific surface of at least 50 m.sup.2 /g with 0.5 to 10 parts by weight of an organopolysiloxane resin having a weight average molecular weight of 500 to 50,000, a OH group content of 0.0001 to 0.01 mol/g, and a liquefying temperature of 50.degree. to 150.degree. C., at a temperature above the liquefying temperature of the resin. The composition has high plasticity in an uncured base compound form and is effective for extrusion molding. The composition cures into silicone rubber having low hardness, good flexibility and excellent physical properties, finding a variety of applications.

Silicone rubber compositions and cured products thereof

An improvement is proposed for an acrylic rubber composition to decrease the stickiness of the rubber composition under processing and shaped and vulcanized articles of the composition to a metallic surface with which the rubber article is kept in contact at an elevated temperature under compression as is the case in packings, gaskets and O-rings as automobile parts. The improvement can be obtained by compounding the rubber composition consisting of an acrylic rubbery polymer, which can be substituted by organosilicon groups, and a reinforcing filler with a limited amount of a specific diorganopolysiloxane, e.g., dimethyl polysiloxane, of which from 5 to 50% in number of the organic groups bonded to the silicon atoms are phenyl groups.

Acrylic rubber composition

A novel method is disclosed for the preparation of a (meth)acryloxyalkyl group-containing organopolysiloxane having a linear structure by the ring-opening siloxane rearrangement polymerization reaction of a (meth)acryloxyalkyl group-containing cyclic organopolysiloxane oligomer either alone or in combination with a cyclic organopolysiloxane oligomer having no (meth)acryloxyalkyl groups. Different from conventional acidic catalyst, the reaction can be promoted by the use of a cation-exchange resin in the H.sup.+ form which can be readily removed from the polymerization mixture after completion of the polymerization reaction leaving no acidic matter which influences on the stability of the product. The catalytic efficiency of the cation-exchange resin can be further enhanced when the resin is, prior to contacting with the cyclic organopolysiloxane oligomer(s), impregnated or swollen with a polar organic solvent such as tetrahydrofuran.
