An outboard motor including an engine holder, an in-line multi-cylinder type engine disposed above the engine holder in a mounted usable state of the outboard motor, an oil pan disposed below the engine holder, and an engine cover covering the engine holder, engine and oil pan. The in-line multi-cylinder type engine includes vertically arranged cylinders and a crank chamber of a crank case corresponding to a lowermost cylinder has both shoulder portions formed by a wall section continuous to a wall section of the lowermost cylinder and extending in a direction normal thereto and another wall section substantially parallel to the wall section of the lowermost cylinder so as to define shapes of the shoulder portions to be substantially square in section.

Outboard motor

An engine of an outboard motor is covered by an outer casing and comprises a plurality of cylinders arranged vertically, a cylinder head to which the cylinders are mounted and in which a valve moving mechanism comprising a cam shaft is housed, a cylinder block, a crank case joined to the cylinder block, a crank shaft disposed vertically at the joining portion between the crank case and the cylinder block, a fuel pump including a plunger and sucking the fuel from a fuel tank through a reciprocal motion of the plunger, a plurality of bearing bosses each disposed between adjacent cylinders, the bearing bosses supporting the cam shaft, a pump driving cam mounted on the cam shaft and adapted to drive the fuel pump, and a driving mechanism disposed between the adjacent cylinders, supported by the bearing bosses and adapted to transfer a rotational motion of the pump driving cam to the plunger to carry out the reciprocal motion thereof.

Engine of outboard motor

An outboard motor generally comprises an engine holder, an engine disposed above the engine holder, an oil pan disposed below the engine holder, and an engine cover covering the engine holder, the engine and the oil pan so as to define a space between the engine and the engine cover. The engine includes a crankcase in which a crankshaft extends vertically perpendicularly in a usable state of the outboard motor, a cylinder block disposed rear side of the crankcase, a cylinder head disposed rear side of the cylinder block, an intake unit disposed to one surface side of the engine, an exhaust unit disposed to another one surface side thereof and arranged so as to project outward from the another one surface side of the engine as an exhaust projection portion, and an electrical equipment part. The above-mentioned space between the engine and the engine cover includes a space portion defined by the cylinder head, the exhaust projection portion and the engine cover and the electrical equipment part is disposed in this space portion.

The present invention disposes a fuel pump and a fuel filter in an efficient layout for compact construction of the components around the engine, while improving the convenience of a fuel hose piping that connects between the fuel pump and the fuel filter, in an outboard motor equipped with a four-cycle engine. An embodiment of the present invention provides an outboard motor having a four-cycle engine installed therein in the longitudinal direction with a crank shaft thereof disposed vertically, a fuel pump,is mounted on one side face of a cylinder head,of the engine,, and a fuel filter,is mounted on the opposite side face. Fuel supply system mounting structure for an outboard motor

An oil chamber at an upper portion of an outboard engine provides lubrication to a valve gear device within a cylinder head of the outboard engine. Oil passages provide engine oil into the oil chamber. Oil dropping passages on the bottom of the oil chamber permits the oil to flow vertically from the oil chamber into the cylinder head. The oil dropping passages are positioned above the valve end sections to provide sufficient lubrication to the valve end sections of the engine. As a result, the valve end sections are made from material of normal hardness, thereby reducing manufacturing costs.

Lubricating construction for outboard motor

An arrangement is provided for supporting a rocker shaft in an engine so as to allow installation of the rocker shaft without incurring high costs, and, thereby, using a simple arrangement. Arrangement for supporting a rocker shaft in an engine

An outboard motor having an oil pan positioned on the underside of the engine, and having an exhaust passage, a water supply passage for cooling water, and a wastewater passage extending down from the engine and passing near the oil pan. The exhaust passage, the water supply passage, and the wastewater passage are molded as a single unit with the oil pan, and provide a simple, lightweight structure that does not result in an increase in the number of parts or assembly man hours necessary for construction. The oil pan is protected from exhaust heat by the water passages, and a flush port to clean the cooling system is easily accessible.

This invention is an outboard motor exhaust device compatible with a small, lightweight cylinder block, which simplifies the exhaust manifold assembly and allows greater precision of assembly. The engine of an outboard motor is located above an engine holder, and comprises a horizontally assembled cylinder head, cylinder block, and crank case. An air intake device is located on one side of the cylinder block, and the exhaust manifold comprising the exhaust device is located on the opposite side of the cylinder block from the air intake device. A side surface of the cylinder head and a side surface of the engine holder are coplanar and form a support for the exhaust manifold.

Exhaust system for outboard motor

A cooling apparatus for an outboard motor which is provided with a water-cooled engine in a vertical alignment in which a crank shaft is vertically disposed, the engine being composed of a cylinder block, a cylinder head and an exhaust manifold into which water jackets are formed respectively and the water jackets are supplied with cooling water from a water pump disposed below the engine in a state mounted to a hull, the cooling apparatus comprising a cylinder cooling-water passage for supplying cooling water from the water pump to the water jackets of the cylinder block and said cylinder head, an exhaust cooling-water passage for supplying cooling water from the water pump to the water jacket of the exhaust manifold, the cylinder cooling-water passage and the exhaust cooling-water passage being independently disposed from each other and being joined together at downstream portions thereof, a thermostat provided for the water jacket of the cylinder block and a sensor for detecting a temperature of a cylinder surface provided for the water jacket of the cylinder block at a portion between the water jacket thereof and the thermostat.

Cooling apparatus for outboard motor

An air intake device for a vertically oriented multi-cylinder outboard boat engine having an engine block, a crankcase, and vertically spaced fuel intake ports. The air intake device includes a surge tank rigidly attached to the crankcase and having a plurality of vertically spaced air intake union pipes extending from the surge tank, and an intake manifold cover rigidly attached to the engine block and having a plurality of vertically spaced air intake union pipes extending from the intake manifold cover. A flexible air intake hose is connected between the air intake union pipes extending from the surge tank and the air intake pipes extending from the intake manifold cover.

Air intake device for outboard boat engine

An air intake device for a vertically oriented multi-cylinder outboard boat engine having vertically spaced fuel intake ports. The air intake device includes a surge tank, a plurality of vertically spaced air intake pipes extending from the surge tank to the engine intake ports. The intake pipes are inclined downward from the surge tank. The bottom tangent of the lowermost intake pipe is aligned with the bottom surface of the surge tank and the vertical length of the surge tank is less than the total length from the uppermost intake port to the lowermost intake port.

An air intake device for a vertically oriented multi-cylinder outboard boat engine having an engine block, a crank case, and vertically spaced fuel intake ports. The air intake device includes a surge tank attached to the crank case and having vertically spaced air intake pipes extending from the surge tank to the engine intake ports. An insulation layer is mounted between the surge tank and the crank case.

A fuel supplying system for a vertical engine provided with multiple cylinders arranged in a vertical direction, respectively, in an installed state of the engine and a crankshaft disposed vertically therein, comprising a plurality of fuel supplying means disposed for the cylinders, respectively, said fuel supplying means being divided into plurality of groups. A plurality of fuel pumps each disposed for each of said groups of the fuel supplying means, said fuel pumps being arranged below the fuel supplying means at a lowest position of the corresponding each group of the fuel supplying means. Further, a plurality of fuel diverging means operatively connecting the fuel pumps to the each group of the fuel supplying means, respectively, said fuel diverging means being connected to each other through connecting means.
