A multiple-contents distribution in a client and server system is disclosed. The multiple-contents contain contents-pieces, which are to be distributed to a set of clients including mobile phone terminals. The set of clients are registered with the server in response to registration requests. The server determines an order of the registered set of clients. The server then initiates a distribution of the contents-pieces to the registered sets of clients, wherein the contents-pieces are selected in accordance with the order of the clients.

Each network-connected information processing apparatus stores restriction information defined for each agent in order to restrict the operation of the agent which moves to the self apparatus and runs. When the agent is to move from the first information processing apparatus as one of the information processing apparatuses to the second information processing apparatus as another information processing apparatus, the first information processing apparatus receives restriction information corresponding to the agent from the second information processing apparatus. The first information processing apparatus selects at least one of the components in correspondence with the second information processing apparatus on the basis of the restriction information, and moves the agent holding the selected component to the second information processing apparatus.

Adjustable mobile agent

An agent system processes information by agents. The agent system is connected to an agent system of different type through a network. A wrapper class memory stores component data of wrappers corresponding to each type of agent system. The wrapper specially processes information in a corresponding agent system. A wrapper generation section generates a wrapper corresponding to an agent system of a different type based on the component data of the different type in the wrapper class memory. The wrapper acts for the agent to use resources in the other agent system.

A mobile agent mediates cooperation among schedulers by executing a cooperation protocol. For heuristics such as strategies and the order in which variables are decided, which are used as criteria of selecting the value of a variable from candidates, when the heuristics are to be built into a solving method of a constraint satisfaction problem, processes with regard to these heuristics are so substantially localized as to be capable of parallel execution. A system smoothly performing information processing is realized by dynamically making a decision, when it becomes necessary for an agent currently located at a platform to make use of another platform, with regard to whether to cause the agent to move to the other platform or cause the agent to cooperate with another agent that exists at the other platform. The dynamic decision is made in response to situations, resulting in enabling the unified utilization of mobile and stationary agents. The decision of using either movement or cooperation is typically made based on platform information and agent information. Even if planning changes the plan of an agent and regardless of what agent is using which platform's resources, it is possible to easily establish whether movement or cooperation is to be used, based on the platform profile and agent attributes. Such a system can perform information processing in response to changing situations.

In a negotiation performed among a plurality of inferring units that are mutually connected through a network, at any time of which a consistent inferred state is obtained, the inferred state is accepted by the units as a settled inferred state. Since each inferring unit can perform an inference based on the settled inferred state, the inference can be effectively performed. Particularly, when a negotiation is hierarchically performed (hierarchical negotiation) or when a plurality of negotiations are performed in parallel (multi-negotiation), each negotiation can be consistently effected. In addition, in a negotiating process, each inferring unit negotiates with other inferring units using negotiation strategies having a standpoint of priority (role) and tolerance (transaction) of a request in the negotiation. In addition, each inferring unit autonomously changes the negotiation strategies for use corresponding to the negotiation history, the current internal state, and the current external state. Thus, proper negotiation strategies can be used for a complicated problem. Consequently, a negotiation can be easily effected.
