Provided is an electromagnetic relay which does not require a braided wire for securing a current capacity of a main contact unit. The electromagnetic relay includes a main contact unit inserted into a power supply path to a load and an arc contact unit connected in parallel to the main contact unit. An auxiliary contact unit is electrically independent of the main contact unit and the arc contact unit. The main contact unit includes a main fixed contact fixed to a frame body and a main contact spring made of a leaf spring and fitted with a main mobile contact which is attached to and detached from the main fixed contact. The arc contact unit and the auxiliary contact unit are arranged adjacent to each other. The main contact spring extends in a direction in which the arc contact unit and the auxiliary contact unit are arranged. Therefore, the main contact spring can be formed with a large length in the frame body and the sectional area can be enhanced without increasing a spring constant, thereby not requiring a braided wire.

An electromagnetic relay assembly includes an actuator unit and at least one switch unit detachably connected with the actuator unit. The actuator unit includes an actuator casing accommodating therein an electromagnetic assembly and a movable actuator frame magnetically attracted by the electromagnetic assembly to move between first and second positions. The switch unit Includes a switch casing accommodating therein a switch assembly capable of selectively assuming one of an ON state in response to movement of the movable actuator frame from the first position to the second position and an OFF position in response to movement of the movable actuator frame from the second position to the first position. The actuator casing and the switch casing have mating engagement members by which the actuator unit and the switch unit can be separably connected together while the movable actuator frame in the actuator unit can be drivingly coupled with the switch assembly In the switch unit.

A damper is provided by a plurality of chambers defined between stacked thin sheet members and containing a fluid for flowing therein through a communicating section, the chambers being made to be of a small height in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the sheet members and to form a buffer section with at least one of the chambers. With such damper employed in electromagnet assemblies and eventually relays including the assemblies, they can be sufficiently minimized in size, and their manufacture can be also made extremely easier.

An electromagnetic relay includes a pair of contacts of high fusion-bonding resistance and a further pair of contacts of low contact resistance, which pairs being connected mutually in parallel relationship, with an actuator of an electromagnet unit interposed between them and respectively having a movable contactor carrying a movable contact of the pair and provided for contact opening and closing with respect to a stationary contact of the pair by means of the actuator of the electromagnet unit, whereby the pair of contacts of low contact resistance can be prevented from causing any fusion-bonding and any temperature rise around the pair can be effectively restrained.
