Provided is a liquid crystal display device () with increased light use efficiency and thin frame on the side on which the light emitting diode is disposed, including: a liquid crystal panel (); a backlight unit () including a light guide plate () and light emitting diodes being disposed side by side in a longitudinal direction of an incident surface; an intermediate frame (), which includes a plurality of protruding portions that protrude to an exiting surface side of the light guide plate (); and an end portion reflection sheet (), which is disposed on an exiting surface side of the intermediate frame () and adjacent to the plurality of protruding portions, extends in an array direction of the light emitting diodes, and includes tongue-shaped portions each extending between adjacent ones of the plurality of protruding portions.

Liquid crystal display device

The side surface of the light guide plate includes an incident surface which faces the light source unit in an opposed manner, and a fixing surface which is directed in the left-and-right direction orthogonal to the top-and-bottom direction which is the direction along which the light source unit and the incident surface each other in an opposed manner. An engaging portion which is engageable with a lower frame is formed on the fixing surface or an edge portion which forms the fixing surface. The engaging portion is configured to allow a change of a distance between the incident surface and the lower frame due to expansion or shrinkage of the light guide plate while restricting the movement of the light guide plate in the top-and-bottom direction.

Liquid crystal display device and illuminating device

A liquid crystal display device is provided with a backlight where there is little inconsistency in the temperature in the fluorescent lamps and which can illuminate the liquid crystal panel well even when the structure is thin. The liquid crystal display has a liquid crystal panel and a backlight for illuminating this panel, wherein when the side of the liquid crystal panel on which the backlight is placed is a rear side and the side which faces the backlight is a front side, the backlight has: a housing having a side with an opening; a number of fluorescent lamps in long tube form which are placed inside the housing; and a light source drive circuit with a coil which drives the number of fluorescent lamps, where the number of fluorescent lamps are placed at the bottom of a lower frame which forms the housing, the bottom of the lower frame has such a form that a recess towards the front side is provided at a predetermined location, the light source drive circuit is placed on the rear side of the lower frame and in a region in the recess towards the front side at the bottom of the lower frame, and a metal plate is provided between the rear side of the lower frame and the coil mounted in the light source drive circuit.
