A video signal recording and reproduction apparatus comprising a video signal recording block and a video signal reproduction block. The video signal recording block includes a sub information/feature amount detector for detecting sub information and/or a feature amount from a video signal, an identification signal generator for generating identification signals corresponding to respective frames of the video signal in accordance with the sub information and/or feature amount, and a recorder for recording the identification signals together with the video signal in sectors of a program area on a recording medium. The identification signals are recorded in a sub code area in each sector of the program area containing the corresponding frames of the video signal. The video signal reproduction block includes an identification signal detector for detecting the identification signals from the sub code areas and reproduction means for generating a screen comprised of respective frames of the video signal recorded in the sector of the program area corresponding to the detected identification signals.

A recording apparatus configured to receive analog video and audio signals, digitize and compress the same, and record the compressed audio and video signals on a digital recording medium such as an optical disk. As the audio and video signals are received and recorded, time segments of the audio signals are analyzed for certain features such as whether the time segment corresponds to instrumental music, vocal music or conversational speech. A table of contents is then generated corresponding to the feature analysis and digitally stored on the storage medium. As a result, the recorded audio is characterized over time, e.g., on a frame by frame basis. A high degree of versatility is thereby provided in the playback process, such as the ability to skip portions having certain audio types or to quickly scroll to desired portions of the recorded audio programs. Reproducing apparatuses enable the user to selectively reproduce segments of the recorded audio and video.

A method and an apparatus for recording and reproducing a TV broadcasting signal includes a CM detecting unit, a write data processing circuit, a recording system control circuit, and a recording medium. The CM detecting unit operates to detect if a TV broadcasting signal composed of a RF signal inputted through an antenna is now a CM. The write data processing circuit operates to generate CM information accompanied with the CM detected by the CM detecting unit. A video signal reproducing method and apparatus are arranged to improve a retrieval characteristic and alleviate fatigue and discomfort of a user at a fast reproduction mode and further magnify the reproduction speed more. In the video signal reproducing apparatus, a fast reproducing circuit 15 synthesizes the picture data written in memories 21 and 22 for generating data of a middle picture in the case of outputting the picture data of one screen written in the memories 21 and 22. Then, the circuit 15 inserts the data of the middle picture between the picture data for generating the output picture at a fast reproduction speed. The data of the middle picture is generated by adding the picture data of both memories at a ratio set by a main control unit. This ratio is a coefficient K (0.ltoreq.K.ltoreq.1) and is given as a value of (1-K) to a first multiplier 25, while it is given as a value of K to a second multiplier 26. The value of (1-K) is multiplied by the picture data of each memory by the first multiplier. The value of K is multiplied by the picture data of each memory by the second multiplier. The results of the multipliers are added by the adder 27. Then, the added result is fed out of the reproducing apparatus.

Noise extracting unit for extracting a noise component, first and second noise cancelling unit for cancelling the extracted noise component from input image data, a memory for delaying the image data from the first noise cancelling unit by a predetermined amount and supplying the delayed image data to the noise extracting unit, decimating unit for decimating the image data to be written into the memory, and interpolating unit for interpolating an output of the noise extracting unit and supplying the interpolated output to the second noise cancelling unit whose output is taken out.

A method and apparatus for printing a hand motion corrected still picture frame to form a clear, high quality image. Even field and odd field data making up a still picture frame are stored in a memory. The stored frame is divided into blocks and a motion vector is detected for each block. A hand motion correction (or deviation) quantity is determined from the entirety of the detected motion vectors; and the two fields of the still picture frame are read out of the memory, corrected as a function of the deviation quantity and printed.

A minimum value detecting circuit detects a minimum value among digital R, G, B signals (three primary color signals) for each pixel (one sample) and the minimum value is supplied as a Wht signal (achromatic signal) to a quadruple-speed signal processing circuit.
