An engine is provided, which includes an engine body including a cylinder provided with intake and exhaust ports and intake and exhaust valves, intake and exhaust passages, a turbocharger including a turbine provided to the exhaust passage and a compressor provided to the intake passage, and a variable phase mechanism configured to change open/close timings of the intake valve while maintaining an open period of the intake valve at a 270&#xb0; C.A or larger. A geometric compression ratio of the cylinder is 11:1 or higher. In a high-load range, the variable phase mechanism sets the intake valve close timing to be after an intake BDC and to make a ratio of a retarded amount of the intake closing to the geometric compression ratio be 4.58 or above and 6.67 or below, and sets the intake valve open timing to be before a close timing of the exhaust valve.

Engine

An engine is provided, which includes an engine body including a plurality of cylinders, each of the cylinders being provided with an intake port, an exhaust port, an intake valve, and an exhaust valve, an intake passage and an exhaust passage connected to the engine body, and a turbocharger including a turbine provided to the exhaust passage and a compressor provided to the intake passage. A geometric compression ratio of the cylinder is 11:1 or higher. An open period of the intake valve is a range of 270&#xb0; or larger by a crank angle. The exhaust passage includes a plurality of independent exhaust passages, each communicating with the exhaust port of one cylinder or with the exhaust ports of two or more cylinders of which timings of exhaust strokes are discontinuous from each other, and connecting the engine body to the turbine.

An engine is provided, which includes a combustion chamber defined by a piston crown surface, an inner wall surface of a cylinder, and a pentroof ceiling surface formed in a cylinder head, and an ignition part of a spark plug disposed at the ceiling surface to achieve flame propagation combustion inside the combustion chamber. A cavity recessed in a spherical cap shape is formed in a central area of the crown surface. An opening of an intake port is formed in the ceiling surface (intake side) and an opening of an exhaust port is formed in the ceiling surface (exhaust side). When seen in a cross-sectional view taken along a cylinder axis, the ignition part is located above the cavity to be offset toward the exhaust side with respect to a cylinder axial line whereas a cavity center point is located to be offset toward the intake side.

Engine with combustion chamber

In an engine having fuel supply means for supplying fuel containing gasoline to a combustion chamber and ignition means for igniting an air-fuel mixture, if knocking occurs when ignition is performed at a reference ignition timing set on a retarded side of MBT that is an ignition timing at which the engine torque is maximized in a high-load region in which the engine load is larger than a predetermined load, ignition advance control that causes the ignition means to perform ignition at a timing on an advanced side of the reference ignition timing is performed.

Control device for engine

An engine control method includes: a first fuel supply step of supplying fuel into the combustion chamber using an injector when a spark plug makes flame in the combustion chamber so that an air-fuel mixture is generated at least around the spark plug, the air-fuel mixture having an air-fuel mass ratio A/F or a gas-fuel mass ratio G/F, in which gas includes air, higher than a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio; after the first fuel supply step, an ignition step of making the flame in the combustion chamber in the compression stroke using the spark plug; and after the ignition step, a second fuel supply step of supplying the fuel into the combustion chamber in the compression stroke using the injector to increase a fuel concentration of the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber.

Engine control method and engine control device

The engine control method includes a fuel supply step and an ignition step. In the fuel supply step, the injector supplies fuel into a combustion chamber. In the ignition step, an spark plug arranged in the combustion chamber makes a flame after the supply of the fuel into the combustion chamber and at a timing when a flow strength in the combustion chamber is greater than a predetermined value in a compression stroke during or before a post-mid stage where the compression stroke is divided into four stages of a pre-stage, a pre-mid stage, a post-mid stage, and a post-stage.

In a spark-ignition internal combustion engine in which a protrusion including an intake-side inclined surface and an exhaust-side inclined surface is formed on a top surface of a piston, and a cavity is formed in the protrusion at a position associated with a spark plug, the intake-side inclined surface and the exhaust-side inclined surface are formed in such a way that an inclination angle of the exhaust-side inclined surface is smaller than an inclination angle of the intake-side inclined surface, and a difference in inclination angle between the intake-side inclined surface and the exhaust-side inclined surface is 4 degrees or larger.

Spark-ignition internal combustion engine

In a spark-ignition internal combustion engine in which a protrusion including an intake-side inclined surface and an exhaust-side inclined surface is formed on a top surface of a piston, and a cavity is formed in the protrusion at a position associated with a spark plug. The cavity includes a bottom surface and a tubular peripheral surface, and is formed in such a way that a ratio of a depth of the cavity with respect to a diameter of the cavity is 0.3 or smaller.

In a spark-ignition internal combustion engine in which a protrusion including an intake-side inclined surface and an exhaust-side inclined surface is formed on a top surface of a piston, and a cavity is formed in the protrusion at a position associated with a spark plug, the intake-side inclined surface and the exhaust-side inclined surface are formed in such a way that a ratio of a length of the exhaust-side inclined surface with respect to a length of the intake-side inclined surface is 1.25 or larger in a cross section passing through a center axis of the piston and orthogonal to an axis direction of a crankshaft.

A control system for a pre-mixture compression-ignition engine is provided, configured such that in a first combustion mode, the control unit controls the fuel injection valve to have a fuel amount within a mixture gas in an outer circumferential portion of the combustion chamber larger than in the center portion, the swirl generating part to generate a swirl flow in the outer circumferential portion, and the spark plug to ignite the mixture gas in the center portion. In a second combustion mode, the control unit controls the fuel injection valve to start a fuel injection on intake stroke so that the mixture gas is formed in the entire combustion chamber, the swirl generating part so that a swirl flow becomes weaker than in the first combustion mode, and the spark plug to ignite the mixture gas before CTDC.

Control system for pre-mixture compression-ignition engine

In response to a switching demand from an all-cylinder operation to a reduced-cylinder operation, the amount of air to be taken into each of cylindersA toD is made larger than the amount of air during the all-cylinder operation in a normal state. Preparatory control of changing the ignition timing of ignition device to a timing on the retard side with respect to the ignition timing during the all-cylinder operation in the normal state is executed. After termination of the preparatory control, the reduced-cylinder operation is started. During execution of the preparatory control, the valve closing timing of an exhaust valveis changed to a timing on the advance side with respect to the valve closing timing thereof during the all-cylinder operation in the normal state so as to reduce the amount of internal EGR gas in at least a part of an operating range C.

Engine control apparatus

A fuel control system of an engine is provided which controls, by using a tumble flow, a behavior of fuel directly injected into a combustion chamber formed inside a cylinder of the engine. The fuel control system includes a fuel injector for directly injecting the fuel into the combustion chamber, a tumble flow generator for generating the tumble flow within the combustion chamber, and a fuel injector controlling module for causing the fuel injector to inject the fuel at a first injection timing and then inject a smaller amount of fuel than an amount injected at the first injection timing, in a direction opposing a positive direction of the tumble flow at a second injection timing, the first injection timing designed to be in an intake stroke of the cylinder, the second injection timing designed to be in a latter half of the compression stroke of the cylinder.

Fuel control system of engine

A winding device is provided behind a rearmost-row seat and extends in a vehicle width direction to wind up a tonneau cover member. The tonneau cover member comprises a cover body portion and a board portion connected to a rear end of the cover body portion and has its rear end portion capable of engaging with an engaged portion of a lift gate. The lift gate further includes a pair of restraint portions at a specified position of both end portions of the inner face thereof which is located above the engaged portion, which is operative to restrain the cover body portion from moving upward when the lift gate is fully open and the tonneau cover member engages with the lift gate through a contact thereof with the board portion to stop further upward moving of the board portion.

There is provided, in one aspect of the present description, a method of controlling a spark ignited internal combustion engine having a fuel injector which injects fuel directly into its combustion chamber. The method comprises stopping the fuel injection if a desired torque for the engine is a predetermined torque or less and a speed of the engine is a predetermined speed or greater. The method comprises resuming the fuel injection by injecting a first amount of fuel directly into the combustion chamber during a negative pressure period and injecting a second amount of the fuel into the combustion chamber during an intake period. The method further includes resuming the fuel injection by injecting a third amount of the fuel directly into the combustion chamber during the negative pressure period and injecting a fourth amount of the fuel into the combustion chamber during the intake period.

Control of spark ignited internal combustion engine

A system and method of controlling an internal combustion engine are provided. The method may include closing said intake valve at a timing in a first range, which is before a maximum charge closing timing with which an amount of air inducted into said cylinder from said air intake passage would be maximized at a given engine speed, during a cylinder cycle when a desired amount of air to be inducted into said cylinder is less than or equal to a predetermined air amount at the given engine speed. The method may further include closing said intake valve at a timing in a second range, which is after said maximum charge closing timing and separated from said first range during a cylinder cycle, when a desired amount of air to be inducted into said cylinder is greater than said predetermined air amount at the given engine speed.
